Tariffs announced on Canada, China, & Mexico goods

How the fuck can any business plan for the future with this shit show of a government?
I have lost count of how many times tariffs have been imposed, lifted, changed and delayed, and we have had less than 4 months of the Trump idiocracy.
It's almost like the felon has never run a business before. #artofthedeal

Wholesale prices were forecast to rise by .2%. They declined by .5%. Biggest monthly decline since 2020. Walmart says prices of some items will rise in the future.

🙄

Yeah, DonOld (“Cave-man”) Trump CAVED, thus averting IMMEDIATE significant price hikes (ETC!!!).

😑

The inevitable price hikes from DonOld’s tariff chaos, etc, will begin to materialize in June, July, August.

BabyBoobs KNOWS that ^. (Which makes BabyBoobs a gaslighting POS.)

👎

And then there’s: the bond market; the continuing tariffs; anti-American sentiment and the accompanying boycotts of goods, travel and tourism; consumer debt; consumer spending; legal challenges; the cost associated with climate change disasters; the SOARING national debt under Trump 2.0; the SOARING trade deficit under Trump 2.0, and the looming budget battle in congress.

Enjoy.

Trump tells Walmart to 'eat the tariffs' instead of raising prices

WASHINGTON, May 17 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday that Walmart (WMT.N) should "eat the tariffs" instead of blaming duties imposed on imported goods for the retailer's increased prices.
His comments were in response to the world's largest retailer saying this week that it would have to start raising prices later this month due to high cost of tariffs.

And, dammit, if Walmart Corporation won't eat the tariffs, then their consumers must.

Somebody's gotta pay for this "external revenue service" that will help make it possible to cut the taxes of oligarchs.

Tell the peons to just buy two dolls at Christmas. Let them eat cake.

Moronic demented Trump blames Walmart for the impact of Trump’s tariffs. 😆

Will the gullible MAGA sheep start a boycott of Walmart tomorrow?

"it turns out that the Americans are being somewhat thin-skinned and incapable of recognizing the conseuences of their own actions...."

"Trumps ambassador to Canada...complained that Canadians had banned certain American products from their store shelves in the immediate aftermath of Trump calling for their annexation and for his trade war..."

Trmp oenly said he wanted to annex Canada, launched a trade war, said the US doesn't need Canada's products and now the US ambasssador to Canada is all hurt that Canada's taken Trump's words to heart and decided they don't want to buy our products. What the US ambassador's interview made clear is that the US really doesn't have any idea of its priorities.

Perhaos Trump is starting to get a grasp of basic economics, altho how he thinks Walmart can absorb a 30% increase in cost is intriguing.

President Donald Trump turned his attention to domestic economic issues on Saturday, lashing out at Walmart for its announcement that prices will start going up this month as tariffs on imports start to bite. America’s largest retailer warned customers this week that price increases for many products are imminent because, as the company’s chief financial officer, John David Rainey, said, the tariffs are “still too high” — even with the recently announced agreement to lower duties on imports from China to 30 percent for 90 days.

Trump has long insisted that tariffs are a tax on foreign countries. However, they are a tax on imports collected at the border and paid for by the importer, raising the end price of goods for American shoppers. On Saturday morning, Trump appeared to acknowledge this, saying that Walmart should “eat the tariffs” and not pass the higher cost of sourcing goods on to its customers.

Walnart CEO Rainey told CNBC this week: “We’re wired for everyday low prices, but the magnitude of these increases is more than any retailer can absorb....It’s more than any supplier can absorb. And so I’m concerned that consumer is going to start seeing higher prices,” he said. “You’ll begin to see that, likely towards the tail end of this month, and then certainly much more in June.”

It's going to be fun when reality hits Trump in the kisser like a wet fish. When economic reality meets delusion, economic reality always wins.

Walmart’s annual revenue for fiscal year 2024 (ending January 31, 2024) was approximately $648.1 billion

Walmart’s net income (after-tax income) for fiscal year 2024 was approximately $15.5 billion.

That makes a profit margin of 2.4%.

How can President Trump expect Walmart to absorb 30 percent or even 10 percent tariffs with 2.4% final margins ?

He just ranted without any thought of a rational train of thought! It makes him look bad in the public eye.

Hell, the shelves will be empty, the price increase goes somewhere, and the Walmarts of America aren't going to absorb the costs even if the clown says so. He told the Chinese to suck up the losses as well. What an I-D-8-6-I-O-T.

Come June, the honeymoon will be over. It's so stupid. There's a whole WTO process for renegotiating these things amicably, without trade disruptions, and Trump has thrown that out the window and destroyed long-standing alliances across the board. It's really highlighted the flaws and weaknesses of our political system that a single man can do this. Other countries will pay lip service to him to humor him but the long term effect is that countries like Canada will diversify away from the USA as fast as they possibly can to reduce the exposure risk. Wht stake your own economy and jobs on an unreliable and hostile trading partner. Canadians are spontaneously diverifying their purchasing away from American products as well - it's not an officlal move, products aren't banned, they're just not being bought. Across the board, Canada is our single biggest trading partner and Trump just killed that one. And the US Ambassador in Canada is whining about it. What a fuckwit.

And I shall not even rant about Ukraine.

If the idiothad just focused on deporting the illegals efficiently, cutting down the Federal Govt, and sorting out the electoral system, everyone would've been happy and the economy would have roared away. Instead, what we have is a geopolitical disaster rolling in.....and no-one can reign him in.

They're still persisting in this delusion that other countries will absorb the costs of Trump's tariffs. The tantrum when the price rises kick in starting June is going to be totally epic.

Has anyone actually told Trump that tariffs are paid by the importer at this end? Walmart has already been about as clear as its possible to be that prices will rise. That, and small family farms are being hit hard by the China market vanishing out from under them. A lot of family farm bankruptcies also coming soon, along with a lot of small businesses reliant on imports from China going under. And with imports from China dropping away, and imports from Canada and everywhere else dropping away as other countries diversify away from the US market, or their economies are impacted under the strain and THEY reduce imports from the US too (like Canada) there won't be that much coiming in from tariffs. This is going to be an econmic lesson for the ages.

Economy above all else. The GOP is going to get hammered in the 2026 mid-terms and Trump will be a lame duck, if not impeached sucessfully at that point. Along with Vance,

Subaru, which had some of the thinnest profit margins to begin with, announced today after the stock market closed that they would be forced to raise prices on their entire line of automobiles by thousands of dollars as a result of Trump's ruinous tariffs.

Trump demands the EU to unilaterally reduce tariffs. WTF?

He thinks he can keep high tariffs on them but they will lower tariffs on us? He’s a stable genius.

Donald Trump’s trade negotiators are pushing the EU to make unilateral tariff reductions on US goods, saying without concessions the bloc will not progress in talks to avoid additional 20 per cent “reciprocal” duties.

The US is unhappy that the EU only offered mutual tariff reductions rather than pledging to lower duties alone.

The Clown Show administration is truly full of morons.
