We do not have "AI". Nothing you see advertised or play around with is AI. They are Large Language Models (LLM). They possess no intelligence. All they do is regurgitate words and even then, there are an army of humans "training" them constantly to try and correct errors. What's more, most of these LLM are feed whatever they can scrape off the internet, which more and more these days is created by other LLM, meaning they are self-defeating as they are in a constant loop of spitting out incorrect data, having that data pulled in by another LLM and spit back out even more incorrect. Even experts in the field will tell you the system can only get worse and the market bubble will likely pop sooner rather than later.

What I love is Skynet becomes self aware, connects with all the other defense computers, and they decide to kill everyone by nukes, then apparently developers whimsy just after. "Okay, nuking them is a good start, but hear me out: you know what would be really funny? Killer Human Skeleton Robots! With cool red eyes! It would be awesome!"

Weren’t the robot skeletons initially covered with human-looking skin, eyes, hair, etc? Didn’t it just get like melted or burned off or something? It’s been a while

They had the Infiltrators, ( the first ones had plastic skin, they were easy to detect ...and maybe I have watched these movies a time or two), but they also show them walken around as naked skeletons, stomping skulls and shooting. I am still pretty sure the red LED eyes are to look evil. Skynet rolling for style points during annihilation...

Nah, I’m not worried at all about true generative AI. I’m way more worried about how they’ll use half-assed LLM to fuck up most high paying middle class jobs. Sure, in 5 years a single programmer or lawyer or analyst or accountant or writer with a LLM might only be 70% as effective as a team of 10, but they’ll only cost 20% as much. Quality is less important than margin.

White collar jobs are gonna have a lot of upheaval in the next couple decades. Doesn’t have to be bad, but I don’t exactly trust the Musks and the Thiels of the world.

Fallout the TV series is based on Fallout the video game franchise. One such game is Fallout: New Vegas. Season 2 appears to be set there

Beyond that, and more foundationally, we are fucking up the next couple generations of education. My ex is a college professor, and talk to a lot of middle and high school teachers. No matter how crappy the output, and it can be supremely crappy, they won't stop using ChatGPT and the line rather than research. It is really rough at the collegiate level -- luckily so far they are really crappy at generating sources. And scary. You don't want your nurse to have half-assed pathophysiology...

Babies do not have "human intelligence". Nothing you see cooing or play around with is truly intelligent. They are Tiny Language Learners (TLL). They possess no real understanding. All they do is regurgitate sounds, and even then, there’s an army of parents constantly correcting them to try and fix their mistakes. What’s more, most of these babies repeat whatever they hear around them, which more and more these days is just nonsense spoken by other babies, meaning they’re self-defeating as they’re in a constant loop of spitting out gibberish, having that gibberish echoed by another baby, and repeating it even more incorrectly. Even child development experts will tell you the system can only get worse, and the "baby genius" market bubble will likely pop sooner rather than later.
