The Supreme Court decided that it might be embarrassing for the US for the President to commit crimes, but it would be even more embarrassing if he were to be answerable for them. So they decided that any crimes that he committed (or had already committed) would be quietly ignored.

Flores-Ruiz and his attorney were seen openly walking through a public hallway, with a DEA agent even riding the elevator alongside them — meaning federal agents had every opportunity to detain him if they had proper legal authority.
However, ICE was operating under an administrative warrant, which imposes no legal obligation on state courts or judges to assist. Judge Dugan acted fully within her rights by insisting on a judicial warrant, and there is no evidence she actively interfered with federal enforcement efforts.
Importantly, allowing Flores-Ruiz to leave through a different courthouse door was standard practice meant to maintain order and safety. Judges often direct individuals to use non-public exits to prevent chaos, ensure courthouse security, and avoid unlawful seizures — especially when federal agents are present without a proper judicial warrant. In this case, Judge Dugan was simply protecting the legal process and safeguarding everyone’s constitutional rights, not aiding an escape.
As many of us knew, this was a political stunt by the Trump administration aimed at intimidating judges, but it’s already backfiring both legally and politically.
A dismissal now seems highly likely, and even if the case proceeds to trial, the strong constitutional and procedural defenses overwhelmingly favor Judge Dugan.
