Feedback on new policy announcement.

Oh well.
Fun while it lasted.

I'll wait (a bit) and see how "the cookie crumbles", but it seems that pretty much all of my work will be excised.

If this is true, then this policy change is nuts. It is taking away significant value from this site, for the sake of . . . what? Manu referred to feedback. It's sure not based on my feedback. I like the way the site is with images. Perhaps it could tighten up rules relating to photographs of real people in forums, to limit the revenge porn risk, but why go after nudity generally, including illustrations? I'd like to see the site offer a plausible, evidence-based justification for this change. I haven't seen one yet.

Once decided. So long as the rules are clear. I can deal with that.

I may not like it, but there are lots of things that I don't like.

I will probably still read some stories here or there.

I know my imagery hasn't generated all that much traffic.

I mean I belong to an adult rp forum and if there is a rule of no full nudity in the avatars and also if there is nudity in pictures displayed you have to put them in a spoiler (you can click on it and it will show the image and yes this is on both website and phone) and you need to tag that its NSFW which honestly I find nice. I am not overly fond of reading a thread and have to be wary of others walking up behind me and looking at my screen. And well considering I am one of the chat admins I would hardly call myself a prude. Or even if like on Discord you can choose to have images not show up and have to click on it to see the image.

I have a lot of chatters who either because its their I like to risk getting caught kink or because they are genuinely just exploring and want to keep it private...I have had people ask me how to block the pictures at the top of the chat and we don't allow people to post picture links in the chat (mostly because if we allowed it that's all some rooms would do) But yeah...while I am more of a reader of smut rather than a watcher...I have to say I agree with this. Not every one wants to open a page and see an erect penis or a gaping hole of some kind. Some just prefer to have it left to the imagination or have a choice in viewing things rather than have it pop up automatically.

But there are rules against this already. No close ups, no penises and no sex acts. I don’t like photos in threads that are not for pics but in pic threads it seems like it isn’t a surprise. Like you know what you are there for, right?

I don't think so. Hiding things with a link should work.
It just seems kind of strange to have to do this. From what folks are saying this is coming from not wanting photos to just show up when you don’t expect it. I can totally get this but if you go to am pics, aren’t you looking for pics? Shouldn’t you be expecting an image? If it is about site hosting and how much space it takes or having to review and monitor all the problematic images I can understand it a bit more. But saying it’s cause folks don’t want images to pop up. It seems not going to an am pics thread would stop that.
Maybe I’m missing something.

I think this is directed more toward the AV pics and story covers on the "story side" of Lit. That constitutes the bulk of the site's traffic, and the advertising banners there generate most of the site's revenue. That is probably the feedback to which Manu is referring. This may not affect the forums at all.*

EDIT: Except, since your avatar image has to be entered on your profile page on the "Story side," it could remove all avatar images with nudity.

I don't disagree, but I'm not in charge.

Eventually, it will. We all follow the same rules. Also, I think he mentioned that it would. But, nothing happens overnight!

ummmm....

"...A few years into our experiment with the "no nudity" image policy for new features - and with overwhelmingly positive feedback during the experiment - we're planning to expand the policy to more of Literotica's existing features with images over the coming months. The obvious place where it will make a difference is in User Avatars, though we plan to expand the policy to the Literotica Forums as well as to the Illustrated Stories and Artwork in the future. We understand that these changes may have an impact on some members' already-published avatar images, forum uploads, illustrated stories, and artworks - but the total number of images involved should be tiny compared to the total number of images, stories, and other works shared on Literotica.

If you're a forum poster or author who has shared images (photos or artwork) that include nudity, you can prepare for the changes by editing/replacing those images yourself proactively - or you can wait until we have time to review all of the visual works and request changes to those that need to be updated. Again - our research shows that the total number of items impacted by these changes will be very small (this only applies to images, not text), but we understand that each member's work is important to them. While the change might require a little extra effort in the short run, we're confident that it is the best move for the community in the long run. Please feel free to send us any feedback or questions you might have, as always..."

This is precisely what I've been saying.

Maybe I’m missing something.

If you are, it's the same thing I am.

Pretty sure the post quoted in OP said it does
Yeah, but Manu also mentioned with the new XF rollout in 2019 that the site would be merging followers between the two sides as well. When authors pointed out that this could impact their status on the most-followed authors page, the idea was abandoned. I would expect that the outpouring of protest from the forums here will probably have a similar effect. They'll enforce a strict no-nudity policy for avatar images and story covers, probably spell out what will no longer be accepted in art submissions, and continue to have mods enforce the policy already in place for pictures posted in the forums.
That seems reasonable.

You wanna know what else is amusing? How they can preach about being on the side of free speech yet in the same breath announce a policy change that essentially censors content. The visual porn/text porn argument is a distinction without a difference. Stop jumping the fence, lest you find yourself impaled on it. Or at least I think that's how it goes.

Well sounds like I came to the party too late. Posted three drawings I did in the AV forum a few days ago and now....(fizzle).
