Well, it is kinda chilly/cold most of the year up here, so it makes sense to have a sauna.

Oh! You are not even allowed to bring a camera/cellphone with you into the public saunas.
The standard dress code is:
Naked and freshly out of the shower, and with a towel.
Does not matter whether it is coed or divided by sexes.

Mixed saunas are much nicer, in my experience. They feel far more natural.
Agreed. I've only been to saunas in the German-speaking parts of Europe, where it's not a sexual thing. The mixed saunas in England in which you're allowed to be completely naked are apparently... um... different. If you're a woman in such a place and don't want unwelcome attention then carry a can of mace or something.

I have only been to women's only saunas, when it was in a fitness center.
But, the public ones, and those in spa's, they are usually mixed.
And, if you wear clothes of any kind, you would be asked to leave or step outside, take a shower (again, maybe?), and you would be welcome back, naked.
No one stares or let their eyes linger.. if, for some reason you find it difficult not to look. Then close your eyes! It really is that simple.
It has become a tradition in most cities, that the harbour pools opens up the 31th of December, and this is quite a huge arrangement - but thousands of people will take the plunge into the ice cold harbour/beach, swim around and feel alive
- just to relax and get warm, in the huge sauna tents (there are so many people participating, that the normal saunas does not have the capacity to accommodate even a tenth of the happy people 
).- Yes, I do enjoy to participate as well, when I have the opportunity.
But, generally - most saunas here are mixed.
And I have never felt uncomfortable.
(Might be why I do not find nakedness sexual in itself. It really is pretty normal here)
