Tariffs announced on Canada, China, & Mexico goods

If Trump's actions actually got Canada to get off it's ass and become more self sufficient and reliant, rather than being dependent upon trading partners, that's another awesome outcome from the Trump Presidency. 😎

Trump will find out that actions have consequences - he should have just stuck to domestic issues.....trade wars, siding with Putin, and destroying some key relationships weren't what anyone voted for

Serious question - when does Canada start putting troops on our northern border?

If a nation is supplying oil and electricity to its southern neighbour then that country is the one who is self sufficient.
Self sufficient and reliant, shurely shome mishtake?

Never, it's not an option that makes any sense. We'd put Chinese troops on our border, if pushed far enough though. Trump's a fool if he thinks other Countries won't find new partners as the US abandons and throws allies under the bus. Xi must love how the US is helping thaw relationships between countries.

Have you seen our President?

It doesn't make sense before this guy. Now, I would absolutely be considering it.

Oooh....I like that approach.

Doing so would first, be illegal, there is a treaty between Canada and the US about troop's and the border. While Trump might not honour it, if Canada did so first, it would give Trump a legal reason to reciprocate. Second, the border is 5500 miles long, even the US doesn't have enough troops to effectively guard it.

All Trump is doing is thawing the worlds relationships. China isn't a terrible economic partner, most issues are around trade, due to China's low cost of manufacturing. China has also with the exception of Taiwan never projected any real desire to expand, and in their eyes, taking back Taiwan is just reuniting a part of China that drifted away 70 years or so ago.

Thank you for this. I didn't think about that

You truly are giving our President more credit than he deserves. He's not that smart.

np's, I appreciate your fact based approach.

Oh I we know this. But he might react, he does on his tariff's. He's pulled them twice now, I suspect he will on April 2nd as well. Automotive manufactures have already said the tariffs will cause an near immediate price increase. Longer term a reduction in model choices, with the dropping of the cheaper more maga affordable ones first. Steel/aluminium corporations have said there will be a month or two delay on prices due to inventory, but then all your stoves, fridges dishwasher, washing machines and dryers prices go up too. Not to mention all the small products like toaster...but hey, you already know all this...

Trump is uniting the world!

(Against us).
Well not the whole world, but the countries that are uniting matter more than those that don't. Trump's soon going to reach the point where he's going to realise having the most nuclear weapons and biggest military means nothing without friends.

What would you know about that? You're as Canadian as borscht.

The Trump administration wants to impose the biggest tax increase in US history.

White House aide Peter Navarro said Sunday that he expects President Donald Trump’s tariffs to bring in $6 trillion in revenue in the next decade, which could amount to the largest tax hike in US history.

Even when adjusting for inflation, that amount would be triple the tax increase put in place in 1942 to pay the cost of fighting World War II.

The administration is pretending that the tax increase is actually a tax cut. Doublespeak!

“The message is that tariffs are tax cuts, tariffs are jobs, tariffs are national security,” Navarro said on Fox News Sunday.

Only a gullible sheep would believe that.

Would you really rather be a province of China than a state of the Union? Are Canadians ready to go full Communist?

I predict a little symbolic tariff so he can say he kept his promise that he rolls back as soon as the markets crash.

DonOld is insane.

I’m trying to listen to this stream of UNconsciousness, but 😑

In a nutshell (nuts hell):

Yuuuuuge tariffs are on - bigly.

The economy (domestic & global) is fucked.

Get ready for a global trade war “like no one has ever seen”.

The stock market can only be propped up by the wealthy and corporations for so long.

Harsh reality is coming soon.

Hardships were promised by DonOld, and they’re on their way.

We. Told. Them. So.

What ever happened to the USMCA? The free-trade treaty Trump himself negotiated?
