Why does Trump say the U.S. needs Greenland for "national security"?

Is that really where Beowulf came from? The Geats?
Since the scripts are so old they can't agree were Beowulf came from. Everything is interpretations of the scripts.
One theory is that he came from Gotland (the land of the Gutes) and another is that he came from the land of the Geats. One thing that speaks for that he came from Gotland, is that the script says that he sailed for two days over open sea when he traveled to Denmark. If he was a Gaet the fastes way was to cross the land by horse and then about one hour by sailing boat between todays Helsingborg and Helsingør.

Just sneaking in an eye-roll worthy interview with the American president.. 🙄

He really does behave rather tone-deaf, spoiled, and without wit enough to see the consequences of his actions.

Permanent tariffs and Greenland. 🙄
In the wide-ranging interview, Trump also discussed his commitment to annexing Greenland and reiterated that a military option was not off the table.
He would be the first leader in all of history to judge possession of Greenland worth a war.

And it would be a war on an ally! Denmark is a NATO member!

He is either to stupid or ignorant when he says that it is the car manufacturers that has to pay. They will not loose a cent on the tariffs. They will push the cost over to the buyers of the cars. And since a lot of stuff is imported to assembly a car in the US the prices will rise for a Chevrolet as well as for a BMW.

And what he says about Greenland........
I think Beowulf and Holger Danske should team up and go troll hunting!

*chuckle* This thread is so funny. A complete ignorance of history.
Greenland doesn't have much history. It can fairly be said that Greenland's history begins this year -- the first year, since Erik the Red's colony died out, that anything interesting having to do with that island has ever happened. Even Iceland has always had a lot more going on.

I'm a bit curious about what he refers to?

It's just one of those things RWs say all the time, without themselves knowing what they mean by it. Like saying leftists are "on the wrong side of history," or that the U.S. is "a republic, not a democracy."

... but Greenland does indeed have a lot of history?

- Greenland as we think of it, is at least 500 years older than Columbus' "discovery" of America, (ahem.. once again, the Vikings came first.. About 500 years earlier than Columbus.. 🤷🏼‍♀️).

I do not get RW's criteria for "history".

Actually.. @Cogan what do you say, using the same rhetoric and arguments as the American president, Netanyahou, and Putin, I think we are in our good right to take back land, that was originally ours. Discovered and founded by our Vikings.
And that now needs protection, people are being oppressed and the situation is not looking too good.

I am thinking:
  • Land of the Rus...
    • And Kiev too, that city is founded by Vikings.
  • Normandy,
  • England
    • (they still have have Danelaw, so that should not be much of an issue!),
  • Vinland
    • it seems that new settlers on the American continent are having some serious issues with the governing of the land and taking care of the settlers.
  • And southern Italy
    • they need our help too!
  • And all the other territories I have forgotten. 😂

What do you say? Should we reclaim it all? 😎

And don't forget the northern parts of Germany.
Denmark had Schleswig - Holstein up until about 1860 something, and parts of Schleswig until the end of ww2 I think. There are still a lot of Danes living in Schleswig - Holstein and speaks Danish.

And Sweden had Wismar until 1903 (they still has a "Schwedenfest") and Stralsund until 1815.

So yes, you are right! We should team up and reclaim it all. (My part of the world have been Danish longer than it have been Swedish.)

Newfoundland. Nobody is entirely certain where the Vinland colony was, but probably Newfoundland.

1864.. the year the Danes never forget.. one of the many years. 😅

And the "re-mapping" of Denmark after WW2.

Yes, the Danish minority in Germany - you know, they even got a mandate in the Bundentag (SSW).
They have Danish schools and a whole community - our old Queen, and new King visits them regularly. ❤️

Hehe, yes! Your region was Danish for far longer than it was Swedish. But hey.. we are no longer having silly wars!! 😂🙈

I learned that about ten years ago when I visited a small village called Tarp. I knew it used to be Danish but I didn't know the amount still living there.
The owner of the small hotel were we stayed switched between Danish and German without problems in a split second depending on who he was talking to. He even understood some of the Swedish we spoke between us at the table.
So yes, now I know much more about that region than I did before.

No we don't. Only peaceful wars on the football field. ;)

It is rather amazing, the Danish minority in that region is not really a small minority.
And they work on both sides of the border, Danes that work in Germany and the other way around.

I find it fascinating and humbling. Things I take for granted, they have to work harder to keep the traditions.

... Well, only until one of us are out of the tournament! 😁😂
Then I am personally Sweden's biggest cheerleader. 🎉

It's the same here, sort of. A lot of Swedish people works in the Copenhagen region and We have a lot of Danish Doctors working at our hospital.
Yesterday I was in Malmö and there were so many Danes there to shop! It was like Øst Køpenhavn. :D
But I find that very positive. More integration between us is always good.

I like this very, very much - that integration that makes it easy to travel between the two regions.

I personally often shop in ICA 🙈 being celiac, there are no better places to do shopping than Sweden!!

Haha, my GP is a Swede!! That is pretty funny.

You don't see it because you aren't a strategic thinker, nor are you aware of Russian and Chinese activities in the region that present security threats to the US and Canada. Search for the subject and look at the map.
the US already has a military base there. trump must want to make the whole country an air strip. Greenland says fuck trump.
