trying to untangle the apparently mixed messages from the refinance agent for my loan...I thought we had an agreement about how to handle closing costs, but it appears not.

Problem solved! I had a misunderstanding about the closing costs...it appeared to be twice as much as the loan should have warranted, but I didn't include the interest costs for paying off the old loan, or the interest costs incurred while waiting for my first monthly payment...everything is good now...

I don't know! They keep their garage door closed about 3/4 of the way so we can't see while they're doing it. But once they're done, they open their garage all the way and there's a string of chickens hanging up!
