I have not had this experience. Of course, it's unusual that I do more than swap the occasional PM. Most of my interactions remain very casual. However, I have noticed that with few exceptions, most people send a picture of themselves very quickly.

Interesting. I haven't experienced that. Is this something men do when opening a conversation with women on Lit, but which doesn't happen the other way around?

All this talk of visuals has brought home to me how differently I do Lit than most.

Oh, I'm not so sure. I think the Playground is different. It's basically social media, so people post pictures. Lots and lots of people will be here to read stories and post a few comments, and I'm sure they aren't here for visuals either. You and I might be relative outliers here but I doubt we are on Lit as a whole.

When I joined Lit, I never thought I would show my face (or any picture of me) to anyone on here. But things change when you get to know and start trusting people. A couple of people know exactly who I am and I don't hide who I am with a few more friends so they could probably pretty easily figure it out. I'm comfortable with it because I know they are people who, even if something happened and they hated me, they wouldn't be out to ruin my life. Mostly cause no one would care that much about me.

A lot of this. Simply knowing my name is enough to cause me harm if you were really vested in it. I just can’t live my life assuming folks are malicious. I think they can be thoughtless and careless and oblivious, but actively cruel? Nah. So far my judgement as to who isn’t has held sound.
