The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

Hi,

The very first post spells out the rules for this thread. No religion, no politics, etc.

I see you're pretty new to this site in general. Just a heads up, this thread will be quite a bit different than what you find almost everywhere else here.

Other than that, it might be good to go back a bit and read along to get a feel for the place. It's a chill place with a good group of patrons, who intend to keep it that way. Low key friendly banter and making friends are what we're here for.

Order up! ;)
You know i'm starting to feel old l o l

Thanks for that....now I'm picturing bone-in ribeye, fries, chili and frosty beer. I guess thinking about it won't hurt lol

Welcome!
Now THAT sounds scrumptious too - and I got the idea while lurking that here in the Greasy Spoon, shared thoughts are rarely painful. 😉 Slide into a booth with your platter and mug if you will, and we’ll raise a toast 🥂 to Storytelling and deliciousness! And delicious storytelling (on other threads, of course lol) Slainte ☘️!

Thank you 🙏 very much for your kind welcome, AND for the prompt delivery of my dream-lunch! I hope I have not unwittingly broken a rule already, but I assure you I read them carefully as I was Lurking, mostly at the beginning of the thread, and I would not be deliberately rude. So if I’ve transgressed, it was unintentional.

I did in fact come here first as a kind of warmup, since despite the way I may come across I’m quite introverted. Well, ambiverted-leaning-introverted. 😉 That being the case, I’m still a bit hesitant to join more boisterous threads! Yet.

Looking forward to hanging out and making some new friends, as you said! Come over for a toast when you have a minute. ☺️

Oh, it's Wednesday all right.
Less meetings w/ the Team Lead out this week, but not less fun
Lots to catch up on already...
Part 1

I do have a wake-up ringtone I got on Zedge!
After the "Go to the gym!" ringtone, I'm afraid to ask, but still kinda want to know about the Wake-up ringtone 🤭
Another day, another catch-up! Today was a good day. We took a walk to a park near my brother's house then walked the park.

We also went to Costco. I love to see the regional differences.

My brother is lifeguarding tomorrow. We will probably go with him. It remains dry, hot, and windy here. There are red flag warnings. 🚩🔥😰

Have a wonderful Wednesday, everyone! 💖✨💝

Lili had a wonderful day visiting with her brother... capped it off by mooning the café! :ROFLMAO:
And a beautiful moon it was, too, Lili!
You can always earn more money but time is finite!
A Cosmic Truth from Grey - good reminder, my good man

OM hit it out of the park today with brunch
How did she know? It's like she's psychic
Even I found plenty to eat!
I been thinkin' 'bout waffles . . . .
Brunch day
Breakfast and lunch was combined today

Good thing we did up the most important meal of the day right, because we tackled lots of Deep Thoughts about parents, parenting, and growing up (us and them)!
There was a large separation in ages between me and my siblings. They didn't see the polished father he was to me.
You can always earn more money but time is finite!
I have found as I get older I don’t see my parents as parents but as people
I do know that it's a Gen Y thing to label one's parents as toxic and to detach from them.
Your siblings learned a lesson as I did from my not so great mother, what not to do in life or as a parent. When they get past the anger, hopefully they will understand that.
At some point, you have to accept your parents without all the fucking judgment, forgive them sumbitches, and grow the rest of the fucking way up.
It's never too late to have a better childhood (in all but the fewest of cases).
I had to change my expectations of my parents and understand that they did the best they could..... and love them.for all the good things they did for me.... and forgive their short comings....
So...I can choose to cut off my past and go forward without him, or I can acknowledge that he is who he is and respect the journey he's on.
Our parents, like us, made the best decisions that they could make given what they knew.
Step one: the world ain’t all about me. Correlary : the sun did not start shining when I got out of bed this morning.
I have zero complaints about mine. My only issue right now is watching them age, it's too hard to watch.
Yeah - that's a tough one 🫂

Then it was on to a brief discussion of humping and sprint break... correlation? causation? chaos? Or just good, clean fun? You be the judge
Morning! It’s hump day!
It is also spring break and the beaches are crowded.
Happy HumpDay…it’s my day and I share with everyone! 🤣. Weather is here, but I’m on nursing duty. Going to call in reserves today so I can have a little break. …it’s time for a granddaughter visit to cheer her up.
Good to hear HDH's wife is progressing with the knee recovery. 🫂 to both as that is not a short journey. Sounds like they're off to a good start!
Tell me what phone you have.... I need to replace my android s9+
I went from a Samsung SG7 to a Samsung A15 5G
From what I read...
S series is their "luxury" line
A series is their "workhorse" line
This article was a big determining factor in my choice as well as my budget:
Samsung Galaxy A15 5G Review: This Cheap Phone Is a Stalwart
So far, the transition went more smoothly that some others. I like the performance - especially the battery (new phone vs one I had for 8 years - no contest), and love the case I got to go with it.
Galaxy A15 5G Case from FNTCASE
I found it for less money online vs their site
Here is sven he is just 13 months old.... he is so sweet.
Such a cutie!!! Thank you for sharing another photo of Sven!!
I slept in....hope you all are doing ok

Deep breath...
Part 2
(now to fix all the emojis first... *grumbleMUMBLEgrr*)
Morning all. The kidney alarms went off time to move. Lol
Kidney Alarms
That's going in my lexicon for sure!!! :ROFLMAO:
Oooo, I found a box of hazelnut Folgers coffee pods in the walk-in pantry this morning. Opened but not even close to expired.
I love hazelnuts... but something about the oil in suspension? I'm terribly allergic to Hazelnut coffee. Found out when a co-worker brought a bag into the office. Non-stop sneezing... at one point, I sneezed so violently that my head bounced off my desk giving me a mild concussion. Someone had to walk me off the floor so it would stop.
While they enjoyed the show, they at least agreed to finish the rest of the bag on days I was out. So, that was fun.
hello people. Can someone give me something that make me fall asleep immediately?
This month's installment for the Online Book Club:

Apologies to anyone for whom this is a Favorite Read.
I tried it - I really, really wanted to like it. After almost 80 pages he still hadn't finished shaving his face first thing in the morning... and I noped out

I had to stop and read all the words. All I saw on scroll was "furry going commando"🤣🤣🤣
Underrated post!!
Thank you for a great laugh today, @Qky75
Ambien works when it works for sure...sadly for me it gave me the most vivid hallucinations I've ever experienced. The doctor's advice when I called to report it? Stop taking it. Gee, thanks doc I hadn't considered that. How much do I owe ya?
Right? Like you didn't figure that out already. It's the "what's next to try" piece that's clearly missing.
Also works to wake people up out of a coma......
That bakes my noodle!
I understand off-label use, but this seems so counterintuitive.
At least he gave the effort took the chance. It's better than not taking a chance at all
Right?
If you never ask the question, the answer is always "No".
That will put some weight back on you

Oh my there goes my A1C.... but what a wway to go
There's those sneaky Attack Carbs again, @Tweedledude
I'm good thanks how's your day going?
Thanks for popping in today and feeding us... in more ways than one. 😊
Hello all! I'm brand-new here...

OK, and I admit it's been awhile since I indulged in either a Greasy Spoon OR a Dive Bar, so I'll take the opportunity to order a ginormous steak & eggs, medium-rare, over-easy; also an Irish Car Bomb please. ^_^
Welcome! Hope you like it here.
Kudos to @dkak001 for greeting you to our thread
Oh, and I got turned around behind the bar
Are you a picky drinker? 😬

Note to self: Irish Car Bomb is different from a Cement Mixer
*off to look up drink recipes to refresh my memory*

I guess thinking about it won't hurt lol
Does my misstep with the drinks order help any? 🤢
You know i'm starting to feel old l o l
Classics don't get old... they just get better 💋 :rose:

We don't have lurkers... i like to refer to them as passive observers!

There was a large separation in ages between me and my siblings. They didn't see the polished father he was to me. They experienced the steel sharpening steel side of him while he was learning to be a dad. When he died, I never cried so much as when they were reliving and disparaging him after the funeral.

I felt sorry for what they went thru. I felt guilty for what I received from him. I felt hatred toward their betrayal. I felt their relief of his death. So, damn, I felt like a stranger towards them. I still do.

I'm so sorry, M. Families are complicated things. Like much of life, there's no manual for how to be a good dad or mom. The lucky ones learn from their own parents. The rest just have to figure it out on their own. It does create a rift in families when siblings have such a wide disparity of parenting. 🫂🫂

I had to change my expectations of my parents and understand that they did the best they could..... and love them.for all the good things they did for me.... and forgive their short comings....

They taught me how to be independent and do the right thing. They taught me work ethic and that kindness is important but to be kind isnt always nice... they taught me to stand up.for myself and how to handle a bully..
The stuff they lacked was stuff they weren't taught so how can I expect them to teach me....

My dad is 85 my mom.is 86.... they aren't gonna be here forever......

Nicely put.

I couldn't forgive my father until I could accept that he was sick. That was 10+ years after he died.

But I got there . . . .

Yeah I get it.... I see a little of that but it isnt too bad...
90percent they are awesome but that 10 percent is something else
In some ways my parents should have stopped at one child.
There is a lot of unresolved trauma that luckily I have fixed some of that in myself

If you can see it and be realistic about it, and are willing to try something else, you can be rid of such things.

Thanks OM for the memes.

Grandpa taxi runs this warm morning. It’s going up to 70 F today. Then the storms come in and down go the temperature again. It’s March so it’s expected.

After taxing then brunch with my life partner, a massage and on the patio for dinner!

Enjoy your day as each is precious!
Sounds like a perfect day to me! I hope you enjoyed it! 🥰🥰

Happy HumpDay…it’s my day and I share with everyone! 🤣. Weather is here, but I’m on nursing duty. Going to call in reserves today so I can have a little break. She Who is Laid up in Recovery isn’t too happy bout that. We’ll see…it’s time for a granddaughter visit to cheer her up.

Everyone hunker down. Halfway through! Santa Fe Bataan memorial MZ…

Keep her walking, doing range of motion exercises, resting, and taking fluids. How is her pain level? Medicating for pain about 30 minutes before exercise is so much better than medicating after when she's already in pain.

I feel both sides of this. Neither of my siblings are really talking to my dad these days. And he's disinherited both. I'm the oldest, the blackest of the sheep, and the one my dad learned how to be a parent on. So there are scars from the past that are part of who I am. There's also the knowledge that in many ways he did his best with the tools he had. And the knowledge that he's not going to change at this point. So...I can choose to cut off my past and go forward without him, or I can acknowledge that he is who he is and respect the journey he's on.
This is both very loving and forgiving, K! 🫂🫂
