For me personally it's decision time. In early February I had a mini-meltdown and quit the job I'd had. I threw a ton of applications at Indeed. Then I heard from a security guard company, and interviewed. They do a lot of training before putting someone in the field (a major plus) and I've seen in the last week just how much they see themselves as a team. Someone calls out sick, or has a schedule conflict and the others try to figure out covering the shift before the supervisors step in. Very cool. To advance very far I'd need to get certified in firearms (training that's valuable for more than the job, mind) and take an armed position. I don't want to be in a situation where I might need to shoot someone as part of my job (I know, I know the odds are very against that happening, but you strap on a gun for your job you accept the risk that you might have to do that). So it'll be two months or more of very part-time work to get my company badge while I train. On the other hand, I was contacted this week (before my security card came in) by a company I thought had passed me up. It's a utility-locating company and their training is 2.5 weeks, paid at my starting rate starting on the 24th. They pay 10% less and don't have as clear a path of advancement. On the other hand it's shift work, forty hours a week, and wouldn't interfere as much with seeing my kiddos. I know which way I'm leaning, just putting this here to get it out of my head.

Looks like you have two very viable alternatives, K! I used to make Pro/Con lists when trying to decide on a job. Because of the unquantifiable intangibles, it's not always an exact science but getting your thoughts down on paper seems to help. Then you can sleep on it and make the best decision for you. 🤗

Oh no! I never thought of that... honestly, the only pie I ever really liked was a homemade quiche (where I omitted the Swiss cheese b/c of an allergy).
I had my first slice of apple in years this past year. Think that's about 6 desserts this year so far - unheard of amount of sweets for me. I'm more a savory person.

I could do that, though not easily. Then they had me scheduled for four 12-hour shifts next week during the day. Just need to find someone to check on my cat while I'm training out of town. The guard company's scheduler was surprisingly understanding and took me off the schedule right away after clearly stating that if I have time and want a shift to reach out to them.

I have been doing some genealogy stuff and though my mother is 100% Norwegian has a lot of Irish some Swedish and some German. I would say 50% Irish, but I would have to look again to be sure.

Up for awhile tonight watching the weather. Made extra room in the basement for chairs and such in case we have a yellow brick road instance.

Mad chicken pot pie tonight with basil and rosemary before they went bad. Beef roast tomorrow with potatoes, carrots, celery and a dab of wash-your-sister sauce. No, we are close to Alabama but not that close.

Can you call the agency to request additional care days when scheduled days are missed?

Did you have some wild weather? One of my friends was worried for me because of weather reported in Texas. It was in the eastern part of the state so I was safe!

I have to say that when it was going down I wish a few people were there to help me.out.... I did say that I didn't appreciate being mocked about standing up for principles and what I felt was right....
