A CT has been circulating that somebody in government has been secretly taking the gold out. DOGE, or somebody, is supposed to do an audit to find out.
In Goldfinger, it appears at first that Goldfinger's plot is is to steal the Fort Knox gold -- but it turns out that his real plot is to set off a pony nuke and irradiate the gold, thereby rendering it worthless and increasing the value of his own gold holdings.
Only, that wouldn't work, would it? The gold never leaves the vaults. Its job is just to sit around being auraceous. Therefore, what difference does it make if it's radioactive?
Therefore, what difference does it make if it's gone entirely?
