Right. I'll be the first to tell you that your approach is... unusual, shall we say. Posting your picture in your first-ever post in AH. It raises red flags and it makes people instantly think you are a troll.

Now this is a second picture. It still doesn't prove anything. If you want to put this to rest, I'll tell you what will prove something. Take a pic holding a piece of paper with a handwritten text "AwkwardlySet, you are so smart!" With your clothes fully on, please. ;)

I’ll have that in the next 5 mins!

Hah! I didn't think you were actually going to do it.

Okay, I'll turn the paranoia mode off. Welcome to the AH. ;)

Happy to do whatever it takes… to an extent 😂 Stacnash will be turning in their grave knowing I’m not Pervy Pete 😏

He didn't deserve your effort if you ask my opinion.
He wasn’t the first to wonder. I would rather people believe my gender and age than assume I’m a perverted old man, as has been the assumption so far. My pictures are all over the internet already, a few more in the ether don’t worry me in the slightest 🥰

Following as I have a feeling yours will be one of the more interesting threads out there.

For the record, Anne Rice is an amazing author - witches, vampires and mummies included (no need for you to role play being anyone’s mummy!) - who for me set the vampire bar high so long ago.

And, II is an AMAZING drummer! Apart from being a great drummer, the fact that he plays fully covered from head to toe is beyond impressive.

Rice was the creator of the whiny mopey sadkin vampire. Blech.

I like my vamps to be all death and destruction. The Wamphyrie from Lumley's Necroscope books would shred Lestat and the rest of her pantheon of boy bands.

I admit I was a skeptic. In fact, I might have been the first?

Still, I don’t get the point of posting naughty-ish photos in this forum. There are other, more visual-centric forums here. May I suggest you limit yourself to discussions of craft on AH? You can post pics elsewhere and I dare say that you’d be more likely to be taken seriously here.

But Rice could dedicate three pages to the description of drapes like no other!!!

If I never hear about another vampire or vampire story for the rest of my life, it will still be too soon.

I have no interest in posting pictures here, if there is, however, a rule against posting my face within this forum then I shall refrain from doing so. As I have said, I am new to the forum side of this site!

That I cannot argue with.

One thing I'll give her is she was great with the histories of her characters, especially the Mayfair witches, and she had some good set ups, but then they would devolve into more whining and soap opera drama.

I want to add that I read Ann as a teenager. Her books will stay with me for life, nothing wrong with that! Rice gave us vampires with depth, passion, and existential crises, which is why they’re still beloved by many! If you prefer pure carnage, Lumley’s Wamphyrie are definitely a solid pick. But shredding Lestat? I don't know that I agree ;)

I liked Lumley's take on the vampire that they were a parasite (leech) the way they morphed people into various types of machines and servants was Cronenberg level body horror and they engaged in BDSM style sex. Those fuckers ruled. I also have a soft spot for Lumley's series due to the fact the fourth book with the 'essential salts' paid homage to Lovecraft's case of Charles Dexter Ward.

But I still think Lestat is a wuss, so there. :p

I have no interest in posting pictures to be honest, if there is a rule against posting my face within this forum then I shall refrain from doing so. As I have said, I am new to the forum side of this site. The other forums are rather intimidating and I would like to make writer friends. I simply wanted to prove myself as a 25 year old woman. As I say, I have no interest in being here to be looked at, I am young, I guess the way I use the internet is different to how the older generation do...and I want to fit in. The more I get told off, the more I'll learn! :D

There is no such rule. There is, I think, an abundance of caution regarding personal privacy, which will compel some well intentioned people to get jittery when they see others being less cautious.

When I started on Lit, I used my face pictures for my avatar and my author's profile pic. I just didn't really know better. I wasn't familiar with much social media except for MySpace and FaceBook, where posting personal pictures were standard procedure. A number of people cautioned me that I should change the pictures, but my attitude was that I was not particular concerned about the risk and that in any case, the pictures were already out there. (I also posted regularly on the GB, where it's more common for people to use their own pics as avs). Maybe it's dumb luck, but I've continued to use my pictures and never had any issues.

Anne Rice didn't write Horror, she wrote Romance with Vampire characters. I enjoyed her novels, but was never a huge fan. I'm with you, I want to smell the blood, not the roses.

This is why I left those books with my teenage self. I prefer authors like Jon Athan and Audrey Rush....writers who don’t shy away from real gore. Athan’s work is brutally graphic, If you haven't read any I would recommend "Are your parents home" and "The Groomer" whereas Audrey blends body horror with psychological torment ("My Girl" and "Bunny" for example). I’m with you—I want to smell the blood, not the roses.
