What Book Are You Currently Reading?

Just finished The Outside by Ade Hoffmann, and I'm in the middle of Infinity Gate by MR Carey. Both are excellent Sci-fi novels.

Non-fiction: The Best New True Crime Stories: Small Towns by Mitzi Szereto

Fiction: Go With Grace by H.K. Christie

The Forrest..Edward Rutherfurd.
Best book I have read for a while.

The Coddling of the American Mind by Greg Lukianoff and Jonathan Haidt
&
Wicked by Gregory Maguire

I’m interested to hear what you think. I remember not enjoying his writing style when I read it right when it was published.

Same. I feel Maguire is a fairly bland writer. Actually prefer the musical to the book.

So far I’m not enjoying it. Debating just giving up on it now before I get so far in that I feel compelled to finish it. I’m about 1/5 in.
It’s been over a decade since I read it. There were some overly-detailed and dry descriptions of the sociopolitical landscape and physical landscape of Oz, and some really dark themes going on. It did get more interesting toward the end and set up some things for the sequels, which I never got around to reading :x I usually do like reading retellings that delve deeper into familiar stories, especially from different points of view, but Wicked was a tough read.
The musical was definitely the bright, shiny, sterilized version. I saw the musical performed live in Hollywood at the Pantages several years ago, and it ended soon after where the movie musical’s Part 1 ended, so I am interested in how Part 2 will continue with the feeling of the musical while possibly pulling content from a very dark and twisty book.

UNMASKED: My life solving America's cold cases by Paul Holes
I loved this book! It's not just about the crimes, but he goes into detail about CSI and technology, especially the early use of DNA and using genealogy to help solve cold cases. 🤩

The Quiet Tenant.
I enjoyed that book.
