Tariffs announced on Canada, China, & Mexico goods

I didn't feel like looking up who is running to replace Trudeau. He is the wannabe that tried to make "Canada Great Hats" and could not only NOT make them in Canada he could not afford to make them. And that was before Tariffs.
The only hats I'm aware of are "Canada's not for sale". Made by a local printing company. They originally sold for $10.00 (about $7.50 USD)

The hats were the idea of Doug Ford, the Premier of Ontario.

China imposes tariffs on US imports including crude oil, agricultural machinery

https://www.cnn.com/2025/02/04/business/china-us-trade-retaliation-hnk-intl/index.html
Help me understand oh brilliant one. China is taxing itself on these imports from the US? Coal they need because ours burns hotter and cleaner than theirs. Natural gas we don't care if they buy or not. And same with the machinery, eventually they will come back and purchase more. As it becomes more modern they will need it so they can copy our technology.
They could cause pain if they could afford to trade with some other currency than the US Dollar. That has been tried and the results prohibit them from doing it. During his first term Trump already prevented China from mucking with the value of their currency and Russia is broke.

article from Fortune:

U.S. refineries, especially in the Midwest, rely on Canadian crude to process into gasoline, meaning prices at the pump are set to rise. Many Americans who live in northern states also buy energy products directly from Canadian companies.

That’s the case with Irving, which has been supplying the northeastern U.S. with energy since 1972, with the majority of production from its Saint John refinery in New Brunswick going to U.S. markets.

ā€œThis tariff will result in price increases for our U.S. customers and have impacts on energy security and the broader economy,ā€ Irving said in a statement. ā€œGiven the importance of safeguarding the energy supply chain, we urge all stakeholders within government and industry to come together and work toward a resolution as soon as possible.ā€

Douglas Irwin:
ā€œIf there is any doubt that tariffs are passed through to consumers, the cost of propane to heat my house just went up by the amount of the tariff,ā€ he quipped as he posted an image of Irving’s notice on Bluesky.

Sen. Susan Collins, Maine, also had warnings for her locals...
Nearby Maine was also bracing for price hikes from Trump’s tariffs on Canada. On Friday, Sen. Susan Collins said on X that 95% of the heating oil used by most Mainers comes from refineries in Canada, while the Air National Guard Base in Bangor ā€œdepends completelyā€ on jet fuel and diesel from Canada.

ā€œFrom fisheries to potato farmers to paper mills, these tariffs will have a significant impact on Maine’s economy and risk increasing costs for our residents,ā€ she added.

That would require you to have an understanding outside of your Twitter feed.

I wrote: ā€œTrump’s tariffs are a tax on American consumers.ā€

I did not say that China’s tariffs are a tax on us, because they aren’t.
How are they a tax on US consumers? If they don't buy stuff from us it is fine with us. They do not have the resources on their own. For them to buy them else where will cost more than the cost increases they added.

How are they a tax on US consumers?

I wrote that Trump’s tariffs are a tax on American consumers. Trump’s tariffs. Not China’s tariffs. Trump’s. Trump’s.

Trump’s tariffs are a tax on goods entering the US, which is paid by the importer and ultimately by the consumer. Trump imposes tariffs to increase the price of foreign goods in the US in the hope that consumers will buy US-made products instead.

China’s tariffs on products they import from the US work the same way. The Chinese importer pays the tariff and the cost is ultimately paid by the consumer.

If they don't buy stuff from us it is fine with us.

US companies that export to China disagree with you. It’s the opposite of ā€œfineā€ with them.

US companies export $147 billion of products to China each year.

So if Trump has applied tariffs it will make it easier to notice what is from china. Anything I have purchased that was made in china was a low cost item of convenience purchased on Amazon. I hear most antibiotics are from China. Big pharma needs to get busy. However when it comes to anything medical dems pelosi / obama screwed that up.
Good thing the Chinese take out makes its product locally!
I wonder if any of the companies that export to China will speak up. I don't hear any complaints.

Holy fuck. You're a special kind of MAGAT.

China doesn't import coal from the USA. They have their own deposits of anthracite, bituminous, sub bituminous and lignite coal. More than the USA in fact. Unless you know of another "type" of coal. They don't need yours!!

Let's start with that little error in fact.

We'll see how your spluttering but, but, but, works.

Sorry Fuzzy. I lived there for 3 years. They import coal. Mostly from the US. And mostly from the east coast it goes through the Panama Canal to get there. Most coal in China that is not porous and burns as coal from the US does is very difficult to get to. It was our coal that fueled the steel production for their building boom.
All the while Al Gore and friends were making deals to fatten their wallets West Virginia sold their coal anyway.
Which at this point is not a big deal. Chinas building boom has all but come to a halt. Even their economy is fake. It collapsed like a house cards. Much like most of the items you refer to as ā€œfactsā€ here.

Ok, you get me on a technicality, China imported 45 million tons last year of the 543 million tons imported. China holds the worlds larges coal reserves.

However China doesn't depend upon the USA's coal imports, and the USA doesn't have the "cleanest coal" or burn's the hottest. There are only four types. None are exclusive to the USA. Coal is imported because it's currently cheaper to do so, than mine their own.
