I'm trying not to get addicted to these little flash fiction exercises, the feedback-to-work ratio feels like eating junk food

The good news is, my alien story has gotten so much engagement in so little time that I'm definitely turning it into a series, and should have the first full chapter done this week!

My first 750 Entry is in I/T, so it's getting lots of views. votes, and currently is sitting at 4.2 which is what I expected for such a short piece.

I had a quick look at how harsh the scoring is using the method that I discussed in another thread. This graph shows the current score percentiles for 750 Word stories published this week (black line) against a few others - the recent and all-time scores for all stories, the all-time stories for stories with '750 word' in the text, and everybody's favourite kicking horse (Loving Wives, scored for all time and for the past 12 months).

Caveats:
1) the data is very noisy for the recent stories - only 44 in the sample.
2) the 'all time' 750 search returned some noisy data (non 750 word project stories) that I didn't bother cleaning up
3) it's unlikely that there has been much 'sweeping' of story scores for the recent stories, so the data will include some 'bombs' as well as the expected 'meh, I didn't get my rocks off' scores.

With that all said, the scores for the stories submitted this week are clearly harsher than you'd expect for an average story. If you're feeling a bit flat about that, please remember that this is simply expected behaviour from the voters, and you didn't submit the story in order to win any contest but to have fun and stimulate the readers and other authors. And the scores will likely improve after the sweeps anyway. If you are submitting your 750-word cuckold story into Loving Wives, well, that will give us a bit more data between the 1st and 5th percentile (Note to self: let's do it!)

Mine have settled into the scores I expected them to get, more or less. The two in loving wives are about half a point higher than I expected.

My romance submission (which is a lot *softer* than the three I submitted before) goes live tonight.

I submitted one, today. I hadn't planned on it, but I kept thinking about it. I took one of the nanofics from twitter/bluesky and expanded it. I put it in First Time, which is my first, First Time story submission. There's a bit of backstory, lotta sex, and closure.

My foot story just dropped...I hope I did it right, especially the gender neutral romance aspect of it. Worthy experiment, noble failure or waste of time? I guess I'll find out soon enough.

750 words is what got me finally to register here and post a story - a year ago. Since then, I have written a handful of stories and learned a lot (namely, that all these years I've been speaking broken English without even realizing it, but that's besides the point), but one background character stood out to me, making me think that he deserves his own spotlight.

And here it is! Please meet the "Amazing Japanese Cowboy Yamada Taro" - a mini western about a little Easterner.

I've also realized that "750 words" is perfect for trying new categories without committing to them much, so here's my Gay Male story and I have nothing more to say about it. If I survive this week, I'll try to write a LW story too.
