Depends on which I run into first. I understand that they are two different media, and that one doesn't translate to the other perfectly, so I take that into consideration. Sometimes I greatly disagree with the changes, but still love a movie adaptation (LotR completely changing the personality of Frodo and giving all his heroic determination to Sam being a major one). And sometimes...it is an adaptation in name only, and I am usually fine with that as well.

I have read books based on seeing the movie.

Increased empathy. It is easy to hate "the other." I think that if people saw others, even enemeies, as the complex people they all really are, it would solve a huge amount of problems in the world.

I am going all selfish here.
