The 2025 750 Word Story Challenge Support Thread

So, I had a V-day story that was 1500 words conceptually while it waited for character development, back story and blatant author licence. I challenged myself to trim it to the bones and see if i could still make it speak.

Can a story be concurrently entered in the V day comp and the 750 word challenge as well? I don't expect it to ring major bells in the v day lists, but it would get some views. Is that against the spirit of things?

Thoughts and guidance please?

The 750 is a challenge, not a contest, so yes you could enter in both.

You should submit as per the instructions. It makes administration much simpler. It's not as if you have to wait very long.

You're right, of course. It's the first erotic story I've ever written so I'm eager to get it out there. But anticipation is 90% of pleasure, right?

I don't have any ideas yet, so I may not participate this year. I enjoyed adding stories to the event for the last three years, but I generally find that with the exception of a few kind and supportive comments from other participants in the event there's not much feedback that suggests the stories are broadly appreciated. Mostly, I'm told "it should have been longer." "Feels rushed."

One of the fun things about it is you can get an idea and then an hour later the story's done. That's never the case for me with longer stories.

Dooo it, it's so challenging but not time consuming! Like doing Connections or Wordle, like a quick addicting little puzzle!

I've done many of them. I think I started in the third or fourth year. I already have a full plate as is. I spent pretty much all of last year on story layouts, and writing some of what I had, of some of them. It's why I haven't really done any contest either.

Argh. I was inspired this afternoon to write a third 750 with an explicit sex scene. This is not my normal m.o., the actual sex usually comes immediately after the last line, it's all about the buildup. It just topped 800 words, and "they're not done." I guess I'll complete the scene and start ruthlessly chopping at the development. Sigh.

I sorta think I got it. It's 750 alright, but I'm not happy with the severity of the amputations. It's lost much of the intended color and turned into (what I perceive as) standard cuckold stroker fare, with little nuance. Oh, well. Three weeks to tune it up.

It'll be more than balanced by one already finished, an emotional tour de force that surprised me in its depth.

My 3rd 750 word story ever got many of these, including some very nice comments... that ended in "What happened?" and "Can your story be longer?" and "You should really write a followup"

So I re-wrote it as a 30k word story, I took a May/December romance and turned it into a Mafia murder mystery, and they said "NOT ENOUGH! MORE!" so I added 3 times the content! Good guys! Bad guys! Hit men, hot babes! Its a full murder mystery Mafia hit dramatic Novel!!! And they said "You want me to pay money for that? It's just a 750 word story that you stretched out."

I said "thanks mom..."
