New York becomes first US city with congestion charge

New York has implemented a congestion charge for a portion of Manhattan. It’s a user fee, which conservatives are supposed to like.

Trump is loudly against it, despite his professed support of states’ rights. Since when has the federal government had a say in tolls on local roads? Never.

But its most high-profile opposition has come from Trump, a native New Yorker who has vowed to kill the scheme when he returns to office this month.

Local Republicans have already asked him to intervene.

It’s a test of whether MAGAs actually believe what they say they stand for.

He doesn't need to ban it. Just highlighting a congestion charge's existence is enough to say "That place is a shithole. Don't live there."

Wacko Cherno pretends to believe in a coming environmental catastrophe, but is against a user fee on roads?

The AP reports that Trump used a federal environmental review to stall implementation of a congestion charge during his first administration. Environmental review of a toll?! 😆 Federal government overreach!

The plan had stalled during his first term while it waited on a federal environmental review.

Since when??

Trump is loudly against it,

So?? He's allowed not to like dumb commie shit.

despite his professed support of states’ rights.

Something Democrats hate, so what's the problem?? He's giving both sides what they want. :ROFLMAO:

Since when has the federal government had a say in tolls on local roads? Never.

Who says he's going to use government power?

A conversation can change a lot.

It’s a test of whether MAGAs actually believe what they say they stand for.

No this is you showing everyone you don't understand shit and are desperately floundering.

OUTSTANDING!!! A little COMMON SENSE REGULATION finally being used right.... :D (y) (y) I can only hope he is actually on this track and gets absolutely RUTHLESS with it. W for Trump and MAGA.

Totally Fact-Free Chad strikes again! 😆

Since when??

Conservatives have always supported user fees over general taxes.
So?? He's allowed not to like dumb commie shit.

User fees are the opposite of “commie”.

Who says he's going to use government power?

Trump says he’s going to use government power.

Poor Totally Fact-Free Chad. He never knows what he’s talking about, but he rants anyway. 😆

I see challenges ahead, some of which may become catastrophes as denial and greenwashing (such as electric cars and nuclear energy) delay acceptance and adaptation.

NYC's extreme expenses and overpopulation are barely livable while it has extreme wealth, but it is losing that now.

Away from circling the drain NYC, some states are depaving rural roads to cut road costs. Dirt roads reduce mpg and chew tires, but that is a practical step towards a green future as horses replace cars.

Your comments don’t relate to the thread topic of states’ rights. 👍

This is only an expense to those who chose to drive in those areas at that time. It’s a very easily avoidable expense for anyone living in NYC and improves the quality of life for the residents.

Further proof (upon a mountain of it) that the racists in our country have never meant the states they hate when they say "states' rights."

Same was true before the Civil War. :)

So you don’t believe in states’ rights or even something so simple as local decisions on road tolls? The Feds must control everything? 😆

UltraChud is obviously angling to win the award for the most farcically ignorant and hypocritical right wing clown on the PB.

I would say that imbecile has already locked up the award, though, to be fair, there are some other farcically ignorant and hypocritical right wing clowns on the PB that are running a close second.

😑

NY metro residents pay congestion charges of insanely high living costs. Paying to use the roads every time they drive anywhere, in addition to NYC's gas prices, insurance, and registration fees, would be more insanity. The smart ones might pay it once to GTFO.

I paid tolls to cross the bridges to Canada, in cash at the tollbooths. NYC's congestion charges are paid with "E-ZPass," which may be more convenient for daily commuters, but would be more hassle for first time visitors. "Do I want to visit NYC enough to start a pass account? Nah, it probably smells like a sewer anyway."

As usual, you don’t know what you’re talking about. 70% of Manhattan residents don’t own cars (they don’t need them). No congestion charges for them!

People live there because they like it, and there are great economic opportunities there. It’s as simple as that.

Anyone who doesn’t want to pay a toll can simply take transit. Encouraging that is the entire point.

EZPass is one way to pay (the faster, easier option). You can still pay at a toll booth if you are a Luddite.

You don’t seem to realize that there have always been tolls at the Lincoln Tunnel and the George Washington Bridge. The people are used to paying tolls.

And only foolish “first time visitors” drive to Manhattan. That’s what trains are for.

By the way, your comments are still off the topic of states’ rights.

So again, they would only have to pay if they chose to drive in that area at that time. NYC residents could take mass transit or even walk.

We have high costs of living in Florida, with high gas prices and we have congestion lanes on the highway. Why is this a problem in NYC but not in Florida?

Oh look, a fuckwit hypocrite doesn't understand the conversation.

Put a "No Stopping" sign outside all Trump building access points - prevention measure, to stop citizens setting fire to Cyber trucks.;)

Driving in Florida is at least one separate thread, maybe several threads for the racing zone, war zone, and Florida Man zone.

Then make it more about states' rights. You could do a major rewrite of your OP.
