Why writers shouldn’t listen to fans

I did have someone suggest I write the story seen from the other main character's perspective... which was a bit odd as they were also a main driving character and their views were clearly given near the end of the story with a speech. I could (almost) see their point, but it just made no sense and added nothing.

I got some email feedback with lots of suggestions on a particular thread too. That always feels odd - 'i like your story, but do this' kind of vibe going on.

Is that really a thing?
The first thing you learn in a speaking class is KISS, and it works.

If you were in the military and decided to impress the colonel with minutes of endless intellectual drivel to pad out a weak briefing you were in real trouble. I was a "slide flipper" for a colonel who was a known "head hunter" and I saw several lieutenants who were first in their class at "Sky High" (USAF Academy) try to impress the colonel with their command of trivial crap. Their careers ended with the colonel mercifully (to the rest of us in the briefing) saying "Shut the fuck up. NEXT!"
