Granted, I have not been here long but I have tried to consume as many stories as possible. I have found the the ones that jump out to me hit me the most as a reader are not just ones that I identify with, but ones where you can feel the growth of the character, feel the emotion in them and in their dialogue.

What do you love the most about the stories you read or write?

character development and interactions with others. bring me into the MC so I become involved with their lives. if an author can get me attached to a character it makes that story much more interesting for me!

Could not agree more - finding myself attached to the MC (male or female) through the raw experience or emotion is just an unbelievable experience

The minutiae of life.

Emotion, characters, themes and narrative are all very powerful, but on a simpler note I like just reading about life. Simple habits. Food and eccentricities and the games children play. People watching, but in the form of fiction.

For me, the characters have to be human unless they obviously are not. They need to have hopes, dreams, fears, and insecurity. They also have to interact with each other in a believable, human way. What I want to read and write is the meeting, then the interactions that end up convincing the characters that they have something special together. I don't want to read or write about a one minute seduction that ends up five minutes later with the characters in bed together and fucking in ten different positions where the female comes in each position and the male repeats about every other position. Yes, I realize that most stories on Literotica are fantasies, but that's a little to fantastic for me.

I enjoy a well-written story, but I rarely sit there thinking 'wow, what great character development'.

Instead, what I enjoy most about stories on Literotica is just the wide variety of fetishes, kink, proclivities on display. Often I'll start a story thinking 'balloon inflation? Why would anyone think that is sexy?' but strap myself in for the ride regardless and come out the other side equally baffled as when I went in, but with a great big smile on my face.

I've mentioned it before, but one of my absolute favourite stories on this site is a pornified version of the British 1970/80s sitcom 'To the Manor Born'. Not because it's great writing or even a particularly great stroker (and certainly not because it has great character development.) Instead, I read the whole thing just because the fact it existed and this was someones sexual fantasy was completely glorious. (I'll never be able to look at Penelope Keith quite the same way again either)

Other examples include one story where the writer had realized that the important thing about mermaids is that, since they are live in water and are thus surrounded by all that additional boyancy every day, the upper limit on how large their breasts can be is much higher than land-lubbing human females. Inspired if you ask me.

Like most of you here, I love a good story with character development. I love how some authors can drag you into the story and get you hooked with not only the character but the story ark and development.

Without a good build up it's kind of like, wham, bam, thank you. It was good but I've had better. Those are a dime a dozen. I want the mind grabbers.

That's wild! Would love to read that story if you remember which it was

I like stories where you can understand the thoughts and desires of the main character, but also the other characters as much as possible.

I try to put that into my characters, some but not all of my stories are fact based.

There is no one thing. I like different stories for different qualities. With some stories, I enjoy the prose. With others, I enjoy the lively storytelling or the raunchiness despite less than ideal prose. A rare gem is a story that works on every level.

Good natural-sounding dialogue right from the start pulls me in big time. It feels like I'm reading a little slice of their life before they even get naked.

The parade of emotions of the characters in the story- mostly the positive stuff. Characters are in a tense mood, then they get relieved in a satisfying way for all participants. My real life is too often frustrating and devoid of such attitudes and it gives me escape and comfort to know that such things are possible nevertheless. I also like to cheer for the characters in conflict, smile at good triumphant over evil, laugh at the jokes, shake my head at the tragedy, and so on. Nice to have my sex positive opinions shared by fellow authors too. ;)

Of course the story must be arousing. This could be in various ways, sexually explicit descriptions isn’t the only way to get me aroused, the best stories I’ve read are more subtle but well written and leaving more room for my own imagination.
Lengthwise id say that many of the stories are simply too long for my liking. Two lit pages (or 750 words which i love) is my personal limit in general, there are of course exceptions to this.
A dialogue that doesn’t get in the way and is properly formatted for easy reading.
Exploiting kinks and fetishes I really like reading.

It took me a while to find it again, but it's here: Metamorphosis by al55.

I (and some other regulars) gave feedback on it in this thread when it was published. You may want to look at that first as it is a 14-page story by a first time writer and had some rough edges - the boobs stuck with me though (as boobs tend to do).

The mind grabbers and the ones that send tingles to all of the right places

Couldn't agree more - I find myself thinking..."this is only going to get better when the sex comes"

These perfectly describes the kind of stories I look for at the library. There I want to spend time with the character or characters. Here on Lit I want really well written stories that push my particular buttons. My buttons are very narrowly focused, so, sadly, I don't find many.
