My loving spouse doesn't write; spouse is my reader, however.

Whenever I get bored, I start reading some of the story titles out loud...just to see how far I can get before spouse runs out of room screaming.

Things like... Mrs Morrison's Golden Juices or Billy Ray cornpones Bubba. I banged grandma. How I learned to become an outhouse.

I mean... What are these people thinking? They do realize that a large % of the readership goes, 'ewwww...' Right?

Well....

Go check out some of Silkstockinglover's over the top tasteless porno titles and see where she ranks on the all time favs list. I believe its number one and about 4k better than number 2(I love that for many reasons)

And she uses those titles on purpose-she has said that on the boards-because it draws people and her success here cannot be questioned.

Having said that, I won't run screaming nor will the wife, but we do have competitions to see who rolls their yes first because I will not read a story that sounds that ridiculous, but that's me and I seem in the minority.

On my end I usually stay away from porno 'fuck' titles. Many of my mother son things are "a Mother's Sacrifice, Meeting mom online, etc...for the hell of it I did "Mom loves to suck" and it doubled the numbers of many of my other ones.

It seems those titles make people scream....for more.

Offend many

Tittlate the few...

It just seems like lowest common denominator stuff to me.

While there is no rule against it, it just seems unseemly. Icky. In poor taste.

Literotica. As literary and erotica... And it is neither.

I suppose this comes down to what the Supreme Court Justice said... I know it when I see it.

I don't spend any time worrying about the titles that others use--unless it's a title I want to use too.

The more explicit the title and description are, the better the story seems to perform.

( Assuming the story is at least literate and moderately engaging )

So the percentage of people who are offended doesn't seem to outweigh those it attracts.

Much like handing out fortified wine in an alleyway.

Night Train... Get your Night Train here!

We just had this very discussion in the FAWC. I know you will be amazed to hear this but MagicaPractica's Coffee and Cleavage got way more votes than my Of Love and Laundry. :D

We were given four words to write about in our stories, and had both used one in our titles - MagicaPractica had used 'cleavage' and I can see in retrospect that I should have used the word 'lech' in mine, LOL.

my titles are [usually] of the 'what it says on the tin' variety.

if the story is about grandma's big tits, then... :D

Now...this is just me.

But I would say that cleavage would be acceptable, while ass cleavage would be a no no.

I strive to be cute. I just submitted one that reads MOST WILL TAKE IT LYING DOWN, IF THE PRICE IS RIGHT.

And SHE WAS WORTH EVERY LICK AND PROMISE I MADE

I read titties instead of titles. Must be the lack of sleep or sex.

Or both.

Anyway, speaking for myself, I suck at making titles. None of my titles match the contents of my story. I try making something fancy, but it doesn't work most of the times.

Overtly sexual titles with low scores will keep me out, as it implies the lack of basic writing and comprehension skill. But if they have high scores.... I might consider reading it because most probably, it might turn out to be hot. Fancy titles with high scores well pull me in, but fancy titles with extremely low scores...not so much.

In other words, you let the crazy Lit. scoring system determine your reading?

I mean to say that I'm tempted to click a higher rated story more than a lower rated story for obvious reasons such as higher voting and that red H. Doesn't mean that I end up reading the entire thing or even remotely like it.

They're more prone to my click, that's all.

These days, I don't have the time or patience to take the leap of faith and read a low rated story, so scores are one of the indicators I use to save my time. The title and author in question are other factors I take into consideration. After reading/skimming through 1000+ stories, I still put a part of my faith on scores to save my time. It's hit or miss, mostly hit till now, but that's the best I can do at the moment.

As long as you can suck at titties too ... ;)

I am rubbish at titles as well, as demonstrated by my FAWC effort, LOL. I always think I have come up with a great title, mostly because it's alliterative, but later I realise I picked another stinker. :D
