The Garden Shed

Ok, now here is a real example of the difference between here and there. Varnish to me is clear. Paint has color. Varnish to you is obviously black. I see Kingfishers on the lake all the time and yes, they are blue but i don't see any blue on that shed.

Nice job of painting by the way.

I need more coffee.

I'm just rushing in before Piglet gets in from school.

It's the light that showed it as black. Tomorrow I'll try to take a picture in the sunshine :) This is what it looks like from my window.

Shed varnish is usually clear here! but I saw this tin of 'Kingfisher' coloured, it was really old so the shop said I could have it for a bargain price. You can see that previously the shed was a very weatherbeaten grey colour and I figure clear varnish wouldn't have helped the poor ole thing. She needed substantial face paint.

Ah yes, now i see the blue. I knew it had to be the light or not enough coffee or both. ;)

The colored stuff was a very good choice. The clear would have hydrated the wood and restored the grain but it would have taken a heck of a lot more sanding to get any old paint off.

Now for a small patio out front of the shed and a nice arbor to sit under having tea. :rose::kiss:

What is an arbour in this context ?
I thought an arbour was part of the tools in a machine shop

I need to see if I still have the pictures. A good friend has an 8' by 8' arbor with a huge wisteria plant growing up the center and spreading out in all directions. When it flowers it will take your breath away with the beauty and the scent.

My only problem with it, bumblebees love the flowers as much as I do.

An 'arbour's where ships go in 'igh winds innit?

And 'a safe harbour' is a UK slang term for a vagina... Where your 'ship' goes into dock.

Larger roofed arbours are suitable places for practising the docking manouevre.

I didn't know that. However, I do know the cockney term 'right berk!'

Hey! What about all the left berks? :)

We now have a very famous one as leader of the UK Labour Party.

He has attracted a multitude of left berks to the cause. In the US they would be called socialists. Until Jeremy Corbyn, the late 20th and early 21st Century Labour Party didn't do socialism.

If you want to talk about Monty Don, I want to .... Charlie Dimmock:

Jane, do I recall reading that he'd been rather ill (stroke, similar?)
You may have something more up to date, but he's battled with depression for years. Rightly or wrongly, that just makes me want to mother him more... but in a very supportive professional way and if one thing led to another
I
*coughs*

And very nicely put, if I may say so.

Oh my Lord
now hasn't she had some problems, bless her ?

Her parents were killed in the Boxing Day tsunami.

She is still working but is less frequently on television.

Apart from her dedicated male following, she is a good presenter and campaigner for garden projects.

I will raise a cup of tea to Monty Don and Charlie Dimmock both! or I would if I hadn't had to switch to decaff coffee for the nonce :(.

I popped in to report on my shed. Those Southern Hemisphere rugby players took the fine weather back with them in their suitcases, along with the Webb-Ellis trophy. It has been raining consistently since. One dry spot, however, is my shed! The yachting varnish undercoat and Sadolin overcoat work a treat. Raindrops just run off it altogether. :)

I managed to plant spring bulbs before the rain set in: daffodils, some pheasant eye narcissus, crocuses, tulips, cyclamen and fritillaria. Now all I have to do is rake a ton of leaves off the lawn!
