So much damn incest

Just... don't click on the I/T category, then?
I don't, and it's spills over into other categories.
My point is that I've never seen such a concentration of incest obsession as I've seen on Lit.
The largest category is logically the broadest: Erotic Couplings. But a surprisingly close second is Incest & Taboo, far ahead of Mature, Gay, BDSM etc.
Incest is overrepresented here, and I think it's kind of odd, and statistically odd.

It sits in that space of 'Forbidden by society' and 'Allowed on Lit'. It is, or at least should be, strictly 18+, so despite being problematic as hell it's not child abuse.

The I/T category generally dislikes non-con and prefers loving relationships, but certainly there's a huge Incest/Mind-Control overlap that's far less romantic.

Incest will creep into other categories too, but Laurel does slap a warning at the top.

Actually, I don't find it to be surprising at all.

I said the same thing in another thread once, during a similar discussion, but I'm old enough to remember getting porn prior to having a DSL connection. So, basically, people had to go to stores if you can believe that. And if you walked through that curtain at the back of the video store, and checked out the "most rented" list, there was always, ALWAYS, something along the lines of "With my sister in the Barn - Part XY" on those lists.

Now, in the age of porn sites, however, incest can get your site shut down. The only places you can find that stuff now, without having to diverge to step-cest, are sites for written erotica and porn games. So, naturally, people who like that kink flock to those two places by the millions.

And I've seen it spill into other categories as well. But I never took offense in that because, mostly, it made sense. If the focus of the story is incest, it belongs into the I/T category. If the focus is on something else, however, and the characters just happen to be related... it belongs in the category representing whatever the story focuses on. At least in my opinion.

People should be (as they are on Lit) to write about a variety of themes, categories that may not appeal to some people. Others have no right to infringe upon this if it doesn’t appeal to them. They/you just need to focus on those genres that you like and ignore the rest

Judging and questioning are different from infringing.

I think incest is just easier to write.

With incest there is already a baseline of a relationship between two people, they already know eachother.
For porn or erotica that means there is less need for a detailed backstory.
Add to that the excitement of breaking the rules, and then you already have a basic setting.

People can disagree, but I want the characters in stories to discover something new in their sexlife. Sex between a couple that has been vanilla for years is just boring to read and write. Writing a story where two people meet eachother and they develop a relationship that leads to a sex scene where they discover something new and exiting can take long to write.
Incest is easy. Everybody has parents, most people have siblings. So everybody can imagine what they want when the story is light on the backstory. There is always that 'new' factor, because almost everybody has never experienced it.

I'll admit that I've written some and will continue to do so, but sex within the immediate nuclear family is hard to comprehend. But, I don't let it bother me. I check out the tags and offered Author's Notes, on every story before I start reading and I hardly ever have an issue.

Incest is a perfectly intriguing fantasy, and when well done there is some built-in tension/conflict. Should I or shouldn't I? We're so bad! What if we are discovered! -- a lot of literotica stories lack any kind of character tension whatsoever, so the incest trope has some built-in narrative advantages.

As a fantasy, I appreciate the incest one because it has such a clear demarcation:

When it's a story about other people, I can't look away!

Considering fucking my own sibling? Ewww. Ick! Not them! Blargh!

I think it's kind of funny. As a fairly experienced person I have found this to be true of a lot of other fantasies as well, it just takes some discovery. Some things are wonderful as fantasy and utterly offputting as reality.

All that said, I'll join my voice to those who say: if it's not your thing then avoid it. And for the rare story that escapes the confines of it's category without a warning on top... drop it and move on! Easy to do!

Lit, or other text erotica sites, are one of the few places where realistic, sexy incest fantasies can come to life. Porn does a poor job of it in the realistic aspect, and anything I've seen claiming to be real has been unappealing. I have many fantasies I like to read/write about here, from vanilla to whatever exotic flavor you can think of (would crossdressing incest be something like pineapple sorbet?), and I'm thankful Lit allows me to explore that aspect of me.

Technical question: How do you find out how large a category is?

Thanks. You've put words to an idea I've had for some time.

You don't watch porn do you? It's been a major story theme for years. Granted, it's step-relatives, not blood.
I think that makes it more palatable. I have two very hot stepsisters, and one very hot sister. I fantasized about my stepsisters a lot. I would feel physically ill thinking about my full sister in a sexual way. I guess that is evolutionary biology.

Yeah, real life incest is incredibly gross.

I don't have any incestuous feelings whatsover but I still think I/T has a sort of built-in tension that leads to exciting stories sometimes

I used to think I would never write incest, and have zero desire to engage with any members of my own family, but it's actually fun to read and write fictional incest where it's all a fantasy.

Does writing incest contribute to the normalisation of potentially dangerous behaviours? I don't know, but it does bother me sometimes.

What's the deal with so much focus on incest?

Right? Incest is creepy and gross... I don't understand why it's so popular...

(Slowly slides my collection of ravishment erotica quietly out of sight behind my back) 🤣

All jokes aside, I think I get it, even though I don't like it. I've been requested to write a non-blood related Uncle/Niece pairing, and I can see myself enjoying that.
Taboo? 👍🏼
Incest? 👎🏼
But nobody asked my opinion. Lol

What's the deal with so much focus on incest? Don't people get turned on by people other than their sister and mother??? Geeze.
Personally, I think it's unbelievably fucking hot. I wouldn’t want to partake in it in my own life (unless some incredibly foxy young woman turns up on my doorstep and tells me she's my daughter from some anonymous assignation I enjoyed as a younger man) but as a fantasy it's a huge turn-on. You have to distinguish between imagination and the real world.

It's transgressive, taboo, forbidden. It's hot, hot, HOT!

I really like the incest stories! Especially bro/sister ones! I’m like some of the others here if it’s not your thing past it by! I don’t like the degrading/ humiliating stories so I don’t look at them! Easy fix
