Scott Walker To Cut $300 Million From Universities, Spend $500 Million On A Pro Basketball Stadium

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker (R) unveiled a budget Tuesday night that aims to slash hundreds of millions of dollars from the state’s public universities over the next two years. Students, professors and state lawmakers are already blasting the plan — the deepest cut in state history.

At the same time, Walker is calling for a nearly $500 million new basketball stadium in Milwaukee for the Bucks. Under his plan, the state would take out $200 million in bonds to pay for the arena, and the county and city of Milwaukee would have to chip in as well. The team’s owner has promised some private funding, and Walker claims the taxes the NBA players will pay will make up the difference. Because his economic plans have worked out SO WELL up to now..

It’s a nearly identical plan to the one the governor unsuccessfully proposed four years ago, except this time around the price of autonomy for the school is about $50 million more expensive. And unlike in 2011, the new proposal would keep a tuition freeze in place for several more years, leaving the school less able to make up the lost money, and bringing fears of a massive tuition spike when the freeze expires in 2017.

As he begins his second term in the Governor’s mansion with a rumored eye on the White House, Walker is dedicating himself to building his national profile with trips around the country and national ads touting his “bold, fresh and new ideas.” But he will continue to grapple with discontent back home as he attempts to dig the state out of the $928 million hole.

Super.. Genius... We're talking Vetteman "IQ over 130" here.

For once NeverEndingMoron, you're right. I'm sure it was completely unintentional.

Why is Corporate welfare, like the taxpayers footing the bill for a new arena using funds slashed from university budgets, OK? But welfare to individuals struggling to put food on the table not OK?

Why is it OK for my taxes to subsidize your flood insurance but not the health insurance of others who need it?

Don't worry, I don't expect you to actually answer these questions. Your lack of an answer proves my point.

Nice of you to keep my thread on the front page NeverEndingMoron. Now if only you actually contributed something, anything worthwhile to well, anything.

I see you still haven't answered my questions Welfare Queen.

Just iggy it.

Just iggy it.

Why? It's a good reminder that we really do need to invest in not only physical healthcare, but mental healthcare as well.

NeverEndingMoron very obviously has some sort of impairment and could likely benefit from mental health treatments now available to it through the ACA. I'm not sure if it's just a learning disability or if the constant repetition of inaccurate statements are just a coping mechanism developed to cover for the self loathing brought on be it's own dependence on public assistance.

What in the fucking fuck ?

How many students are going elsewhere, or not at all, after this meat head rewards all his close pals.

In June, Megan Sampson received a layoff notice from her job as an English teacher at Bradley Tech High School in Milwaukee.

On Thursday, she received top billing in Gov. Scott Walker's Wall Street Journal op-ed piece explaining why eliminating collective bargaining for teachers is the right move for Wisconsin.

Walker writes: "In 2010, Megan Sampson was named an Outstanding First Year Teacher in Wisconsin. A week later, she got a layoff notice from the Milwaukee Public Schools. Why would one of the best new teachers in the state be one of the first let go? Because her collective-bargaining contract requires staffing decisions to be made based on seniority."

Rush Limbaugh: Scott Walker should say he dropped out of college to avoid “being accused of rape”.

“If I were Scott Walker, you know what I would say about college?” Limbaugh asked, before embarking on a tangent about his own decision to withdraw college after “refusing to take ballroom dance taught by a lesbian drill sergeant.”

Finally, Limbaugh answered, “”I left college because I didn’t want to be accused of rape someday.”

“Now he can’t say that, of course,” Limbaugh admitted. “But, I mean, just ram it right down their throats. They’re trying to create this ‘rape culture’ on the campus. … It seems like any man that goes to college could randomly be accused of committing rape.”

Yes! Ram it down their throats! That'll show 'em all this rape-culture talk is bullshit!

then put some new wheels on the home and run off to the socialist haven in America .... aka Canada, the land of higher taxes and fucked up health care. Pretty confident that Cuba would reject your ass

do you two wear helmets when leaving the house? I mean, you are special

the reason why you are a liar and total fraud, is your solution (like all of the obama slaves) is to toss money at the situation. hence, you are a mental retard.

Just to inject a little reality into this whopper..

“In 2010, there was a young woman named Megan Sampson who was honored as the outstanding teacher of the year in my state. And not long after she got that distinction, she was laid off by her school district,” said Walker, lacing into teacher contracts that require layoffs be done by seniority." - Scott Walker in his Iowa speech

The problem is, that none of it is true.

All of that came as a distinct surprise to Claudia Felske, a member of the faculty at East Troy High School who actually was named a Wisconsin Teacher of the Year in 2010. In a phone interview, Felske said she still remembers when she got the news at a “surprise pep assembly at my school.” As well as the fact that those layoffs happened because Walker cut state aid to education.

Actually, Wisconsin names four teachers of the year, none of which has ever been Megan Sampson, who won an award for first-year English teachers given by a nonprofit group. But do not blame any of this on Sampson, poor woman, who was happily working at a new school in 2011 when Walker made her the star victim in an anti-union opinion piece in The Wall Street Journal. At the time, she expressed a strong desire not to be used as a “poster child for this political agenda,” and you would think that after that the governor would leave her alone. Or at least stop saying she was teacher of the year.

Another interesting bit in the budget referenced in the OP. That budget also contains another interesting education idea that Walker has yet to blame on inept typists. He wants to change the way teachers are licensed. Basically, the plan would be to let people with “real-life experience” just take a test to demonstrate that they knew their subject matter. It appears to require no training whatsoever in the actual art of teaching.

Fucking brilliant!

You're really splitting hairs when you say MS was not named an outstanding teacher in 2010. She was named an outstanding first-year English teacher, which is, admittedly, not the same thing. She was laid off in 2011 because of the cuts in funding that happened in 2010, which was before walker became gov.

Do you think it's a good idea for a teacher to display proficiency in the subject he or she is teaching? It would seem to be a no-brainer. Real Life experience is the primary requirement for college instructors, at least on some levels.

Time and time again economists have proven that publicly financed stadia and arenas are NOT the economic boon franchise owners make them out to be. If they were, they'd build them themselves and reap ALL the economic benefits for themselves!!!

This is the most asinine thing the non-grad has done.

Hence why nearly all of corporate sports league stadiums are built with taxpayer money.

Houston is still paying back the bonds for building the Astrodome which has been unoccupied and useless waste of prime urban real estate since being abandoned by both the NFL & the NBL.
The parking lot has had some use as a terminus for part of the city's Park'n Ride.

It's not splitting hairs at all. She wasn't named a Wisconsin Teacher of the Year, she received an award from a nonprofit organization. It's a completely different thing.

As for the "real life experience".... No, it's not the primary requirement to become a teacher, we're not talking college professors here we're talking about elementary, middle, and high school teachers. Even college professor positions that require "real life experience" without a postgraduate degree are so few and far between as to be non-existent.

Walker's fiasco of a budget would allow someone completely unqualified in teaching into a classroom because they can pass a test. Hell, I can pass any exam you throw at me in Math, English, or Science at far above a high school level. Does that mean I'm qualified to teach any of those subjects to high school kids? Nope, but i could in Wisconsin if this budget passes as is.

NIGGER UD kicked in CUNT again

That's a good reminder for Gail Collins (and the rest of us): Always check your facts.

Update: On Sunday, the New York Times appended the following correction to Collins's column:

Correction: February 15, 2015

An earlier version of this column incorrectly stated that teacher layoffs in Milwaukee in 2010 happened because Gov. Scott Walker “cut state aid to education.” The layoffs were made by the city’s school system because of a budget shortfall, before Mr. Walker took office in 2011.

go take a seat there simpleton, adults are trying to have a conversation. Scott Walker is talking about things you don't need to let your pretty little head worry about. These are things you can or will you ever understand. focus on your welfare needs

again, you and your kind are bottom feeders. these are things you don't understand.
