Emma considered all of Ron's words as they discussed a holiday location. Above all she was relieved that he was not upset that she had rejected the idea when it had been his and despite that was now making the same suggestion to him.
“Every angle is a win-win scenario Emma. Professionally and personally.
I know I am ready for a holiday with some time away from work and respectfully get away from any drama that John might muster up before he leaves the area for the Rangers.”
Emma nodded. Professionally and personally it made sense for her as well.
Despite the fact that she knew that John was probably sat in a corner drinking himself stupid somewhere, she could not help looking over her shoulder time and again in case he were watching her. Not that he would even be concerned enough to pursue her. It seemed that he had washed his hands of his wife very quickly. She bit back a sigh, looking up as Ron continued.
“Would you like me to get prices and choices for your consideration?”
Ron was so easy going. She had become used to the way John treated her so it was a novelty to be with a man who looked after her and went out of his way to support her.
" .... If it's no trouble ... "
She responded with a wide smile, then leaned across the table and kissed Ron, on the cheek at first, then lightly on the lips ...
She smiled as she eased back into her seat, wondering when she got so bold.
" ... You're so good to me ... "
She told him softly by way of explanation.
She was grateful to Ron of course, but her feelings for him were growing, despite the nag of guilt that nudged at her time and again to tell her that it was wrong for her to allow herself to fall for her husband's best friend.
She needed some time to get used to not being John's wife and to find herself again and work out how Ron fitted into her future.
She smiled across the table at him, marvelling at his willingness to give her time. Whether as friend or lover, Emma was certain that he would be in her life for as long as she wanted him and that gave Emma a sense of security that she hadn't had for years now ...
