One of your all time favorite movies

Yojimbo. Great film by Akira Kurosawa. Great story, Toshiro Mifune is outstanding as a bad-ass ronin, and one of my favorite shots of all time; Mifune walking into town, ready to kick ass and take names with the wind blasting behind him. Talk about looking like a demon form hell about to fuck-up EVERYBODY... nice! :D :D

Searching for Bobby Fischer
Ok, ok, so it SEEMS to be about chess, but it's an outstanding coming of age movie. Also kicks ass with Laurence Fishburn as a trash-talking speed-chess player.

The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra. Very amusing for people who like the sci-fi movies from the 50s/60s.

Infra-Man.

Ok, technically it's a HORRIBLE, very old, Hong Kong action flick about a special, super-scientific government agency fighting monsters, blah, blah, blah, and have on special, super-agent called Infra-Man!!!! Think Ultraman meets Bruce Lee. No, I'm not kidding. Yes, it's as nuts as you think. Yeah, it's crap, but such gloriously fun, silly, GOOFY crap!

The Long Goodbye

with Elliot Gould . . gets better every time I see it. He plays a Phillip Marlowe character. Quite good.

This might sound childish but Transformers G1 The Movie

apart from that Aliens

"Get away from her you BITCH"

The Usual Suspects

Totally brilliant movie, Kevin Spacey is amazing and won his first Oscar. I always recommend it to everyone. It was made by Bryan Singer who was 26 at the time. Movie also won for best original screenplay.
If you have not seen it, please do!

My favorite movies

As soon as I saw this post I knew I had to sit down and think about these movies. I couldn’t just pick something I had just seen. As 56 year old male I have a lot more experience than the younger people today. I asked my wife of 34 years to help me choose a list of the best motion pictures ever made. I excluded made for TV movies, mini-series and second and third parts of trilogies. I also excluded movies laced with unnecessary violence, profanity and (yes) sex. There are many movies that add these contents for the sheer shock or wow value rather than being a real part of a story. My choices are based on script, director, cast, cinematography, sound, special effects, acting, story and that elusive magic movie chemistry.

As a professional photographer I can appreciate the problems and work that goes into cinematography and making movies. I like good special effects as well as the next person but not at the expense of the story. I also love creative cinematography (like high contrast filming) but not when everyone copies it.

My wife and I are sophisticated when it comes to knowing what a good movie is and what crap is. We’ve seen a lot of actors and actresses come and go because they were eye candy who always made movies with a great supporting cast and once they get old they’re finished.

Please forgive me for making such a long post. I couldn’t help myself. I’m a big movie fan. Below is a list of the 13 best movies (in my opinion) ever made. I listed them in category form to help you see them as I have. I tried to list the year that they were released. If you like, watch them at least once and see how great movies were made. I would suggest that you rent or buy these movies in there original letter box form where possible. This is how the directors intended these movies to be viewed.

1. The best movie ever made; Casablanca B&W 1942
2. The best action movie; Ben Hur 1958
3. The best comedy movie; It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World
4. The best horror movie; Halloween 1978
5. The best war movie; Tora Tora Tora 1970
6. The best Christmas movie; It’s a Wonderful Life B&W 1947
7. The best musical movie; The West Side Story 1960
8. The best biographical profile movie; Malcolm X 1992
9. The best western movie; Red River B&W 1948
10. The best love story movie; An Affair to Remember 1957
11. The best science fiction movie; Alien 1979
12. The best gangster movie; The Godfather 1971
13. The best family cartoon; Cinderella 1950

I left a lot of great movies out because the list is almost endless.

Anything with the wonderful Robert De Niro in it. Now there's a man that can turn me on with a look, a smile or just his velvet voice. Any De Niro movie is great because when he comes on the screen, I just drool for the rest of it.

Goodfellas
A Bronx Tale
Casino

these would be three of my favourites that I watch a lot

Better go and get some tissues. Have drooled all over the keyboard

Excalibur - Best movie about the King Arthur mythos in my opinion

V For Vendetta - Watch it everytime it's on HBO or Cinemax (also own the DVD)

Pirates of the Carribbean - The first is the best!

Top Movies

Forget about the theme but get down to the best.

No Way Out
Slap Shot
American Pie

Animal House
White Men Can't Jump
Citizen Kane
African Queen
Tommy
Gladitator
Happy Gilmore
Patton
9 1/2 Weeks
Pretty Woman (wife input)

Goodfellas

Goodfellas, I know, common i'm sure, but I can't remember the last film I watched with such a gripping storyline, sof special effects.
No breasts in it though, bummer!

All excellent choices for their genre, I would certainly have difficulty arguing against the case's for

However for #5 The best war movie, I would have to place the true story [even with the Hollywood ending] of We Were Soldiers once, over Tora Tora.

My list is long and much like others here. I just watched Dark Passage (Bogie / Bacall) for the first time. Great old pic. MMMMM, love that Lauren Bacall.....

Okay good choice; I chose Tora Tora tora because of it's dead on balls accurate historical facts. And also the fact that we as an arrogant nation who suffers from a racial superiority complex never dreamed that the Japanese could or would have dared to attack the U.S. NAVY at Pearl Harbor.

Croupier, Fight Club, The History Boys, Closer, Kiss Kiss Bang bang, The Prestige, Pan's Labyrinth, Shaun of the Dead/Hot Fuzz, Hamlet (1996), The Fountain, Children of Men, Down with Love, Layer Cake, Snatch, Leon: The Proffessional, Gosford Park, High Fidelity, Batman Begins....

Just to name a few.

Best Si Fi Movie...?

If you saw ALIENS before ALIEN; Then you missed out on what Boxers would call the best left/right combination in the business. Alien was the one that started it all. It took hollywood a few years to figure out there was big money to be made in the Si Fi genre.
