Simple: we expect people to take common-sense steps to avoid spreading the virus or getting infected, and here as everywhere, the deplorables see it as an infringement of their "freedom". So if we don't do exactly the same thing in a situation where it simply isn't necessary due to other precautions, we're hypocrites.
