Baby Yoda Gives Trump "the finger"
Baby Yoda knows an Evil Presence when he senses one.
The Pentagon has ordered Stars and Stripes to shut down for no good reason
was the actual title of Kathy Kiely’s piece in today’s Stars & Stripes.
Just yesterday they published an Associated Press story entitled-
Report claims Trump disparaged US war dead as ‘losers,’ 'suckers’.
Such reports have had the Stars & Stripes, a venerable publication since 1861
and in Donald Trump’s crosshairs almost his entire presidency. I’m almost
never shocked at the depths that Trump will stoop too but this really is
beyond the pale.
Back in February the Stars and Stripes was notified their funding would be cut in 2021
Their editorial independence from Pentagon oversight proving too much to bear for Trump.
One assumes the sudden shutdown was related to the coming election, when all dissent must
be squashed beforehand.

A bipartisan group of 15 senators urged Defense Secretary Mark Esper in a letter
Wednesday to maintain support for Stars and Stripes, which could be forced to stop
publishing by the end of the month without Defense Department funding.
Under a continuing resolution, the senators wrote, the Pentagon has “a legal obligation
… to not act on a termination of a program until a full-year appropriations bill is enacted.”
Eliminating funds for Stripes before an appropriations bills is passed, they wrote “would
preempt the funding prerogatives of Congress.”
Esper moved to strip Stars and Stripes of funding after a defense-wide review of
Pentagon spending practices. He told reporters in February that the money would
be used for “higher-priority issues,” like purchasing modern weapons.
Stars and Stripes produces daily newspapers for U.S. military troops around the world
and the news website stripes dot com, which is updated with news 24 hours per day,
seven days per week, free of editorial oversight from the Pentagon.
Pentagon Orders ‘Stars And Stripes’ Shutdown As White House Seeks 159-Year-Old
Newspaper’s Defunding: Report
Spetember 4,2020
USA Today contributor Kathy Kiely cited a recent Pentagon memo that ordered the Stars
and Stripes publisher to present a plan by September 15 for the dissolution of the newspaper
both print and online, and a “specific timeline for vacating government owned/leased space
worldwide.” The memo, written by Col. Paul Haverstick Jr., says the “last newspaper
publication (in all forms) will be September 30, 2020.”
The news comes as Trump is denying a report in The Atlantic that the president has
called U.S. troops killed in battle “losers” and “suckers,” sought to prevent disabled
veterans from taking part in parades because “nobody wants to see that” and denigrated
John McCain after the senator and Vietnam War hero’s death. The report, as well as
Trump’s denials, has been picked up by the military newspaper.

Trump denies reports that he disparaged US war dead as 'losers,' 'suckers'
The Atlantic’s editor in chief Jeffrey Goldberg maintained he heard of the alleged
comments from “four people with firsthand knowledge of the discussion that day,”
but he did not name them.
The defense officials said Trump made the comments as he begged off visiting the
cemetery outside Paris during a meeting following his presidential daily briefing
on the morning of Nov. 10, 2018.
Staffers from the National Security Council and the Secret Service told Trump that
rainy weather made helicopter travel to the cemetery risky, but they could drive there
Trump responded by saying he didn’t want to visit the cemetery because it was
“filled with losers,” the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity
because the official was not authorized to discuss it publicly.
AP said a senior Defense Department official who claimed firsthand knowledge
of events and a senior U.S. Marine Corps officer who was told about Trump’s
comments confirmed some of the remarks to the agency’s reporter.

Trump's New Foreign Broadcasting CEO Fires News Chiefs, Raising Fears Of Meddling
June 18, 2020
President Trump's pick to lead the U.S. Agency for Global Media, Michael Pack
Michael Pack swiftly sidelined most of the agency's
senior leadership by stripping them of their authority.
He also fired the chiefs of the government-sponsored broadcast networks for foreign
audiences that his agency oversees, including Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty;
Radio Free Asia; Office of Cuba Broadcasting, which oversees
Radio and Television Martí; and Middle East Broadcasting Networks,
which runs Alhurra and Radio Sawa.
Pack dissolved advisory boards over each of the networks and placed his own aides
above them. He gave no reason for his actions other than his authority to do so,
according to two people with direct knowledge of the day's events.
