So our protagonist is a man or woman who used to be a pretty big deal when it came to shooting for magazines. They could get the models or celebrity to feel at ease right away and get through a shoot with far fewer takes than other photographers, making them popular with the financial departments as well.

But nowadays they just shoot nature pics or artistic shots that involve no people. Truth is, they just don’t want to work with people anymore…because they discovered they have a special power: if they have someone centered in their frame, regardless of the type of camera, that person will believe everything they say and follow their orders to a T.

So what was the incident that made them quit, or what gets them to go back into the game?

Possible idea for why they quit: after shooting a BDSM themed set for a magazine, the celebrity they were working with kept following the orders long after the shoot ended. They told the celebrity that she was a queen and her whil was to be obeyed as law. Whatever she desired should be hers…so she went and started making people her slaves. Our photographer lead got snatched up by her and had to endure quite a few humiliations before they could get a camera and fix the situation.

2. While their contracts were profitable, the money always came late, so our protag also did a lot of uncredited photography for porn sites as they would pay day of service. Wasn’t even much to do as the pics would be taken during the shooting. Except for the blu-ray/dvd/online banner covers. In this case, they accidentally turned the actors and actresses into their roles (like a normally well spoken actress became a slack jawed simpleton who is shocked over everything as she was shot with her mouth agape on a giant cock video, taboo themed productions suddenly have all the actors and actresses acting very familiarly, and everyone suddenly becomes a nudist).


What brings them back:

Old friend, who is unaware of lead’s powers begs them to do their wedding photos. A couple possibilities with this:

1. Our lead tries their best to just take the photos but dealing with the family makes them unintentionally use their powers

2. Our lead finds out they’re going to get stiffed on the bill (“after all, it’s not like you’re a professional photographer anymore and besides they’re your friend, you should be glad to do this for free”) and decide to use their powers to make the night a lot more entertaining.

this is an amazing idea. I might hold onto this for the future. can't guarantee it'll go anywhere but very clever.

in the meantime, you should absolutely write it, or at least write down more plot points like you did in your post. you may find that once you start plotting it out, you can't help but write it!
