I just completed a pair of wrist cuffs.

I started by sewing two 3/4" nylon straps together side by side with a zig-zag stitch, going over it twice for strength. Then I sewed another strap on top, triple stitching to securely hold the D-rings. I used a hot knife to cut the straps so they won't unravel. Finally, thick fuzzy velvet was sewn on the bottom for padding. Okay, I actually sewed the padding on before the top strap, but I should have done the padding last to avoid unsightly seams.

They're very comfortable. The straps cinch up snugly, yet can be released quickly. A single cuff is long enough for both of my wrists, or both of them can be linked together to form a collar. I have yet to truly use them, but I'll get the chance in a few weeks.

What do you think?

I'm impressed, but you didn't put in another D-ring so they can be locked.

WTF! How can imageshack say those are porn!!!!!

They look very nice. I did something similar using 2" Velcro in white but they didn't turn out as pretty as yours. Quick release is good.

I did something similar with velcro...it doubles itself about 4 in on ankle and wrists... little extra security...

My sewing machine which is probably older then me since I learned to sew on it is starting to go kaput so I will have to refrain from making more til i get a new one...

I love yours the red is a nice touch.:D

Very nice. I love sewing projects. My favorite have been embroidered sleep collars.

What is a sleep collar? Just a softer collar that you can sleep in?

Also very nice cuffs, can't beleive those images were flagged as porn! o_O

Those are very cool. We are going to attempt to make some out of leather. Haven't decided what to use for lining though, so we haven't started. We both sew and he is very handy at leather work.

it is the site that the image is being linked to that is banned...imageshack wont link to literotica...they think it is a porn site for some reason:eek:

Cool, they look very good.

I think I would prefer a metal cinch buckle that you can loop back over, and heavier D rings, for when she suddenly realizes that maybe things are going a bit too far.

I love the concept of personally creating the device that traps you though.

Nice work

So, I am having a recent nightmare that one of us is restrained in some way, and the other has a heart attack or (insert bad thing here). I actually like the idea of the restrained person being able to to disengage from their restraints if necessary.

When my kids were younger, and I was faced with the question of whether they were old enough to go off and do something on their own, I would ask myself this question: "If something went wrong, how would it play out in the newspaper?" You know..."How could those parents allow....whatever?"

That's sort of how I feel about bondage. As much as I love it...I want to ensure that there is no possibility of ending up on Reuter's "Oddly Enough" page.

Happy to share my worries, apparently....

Incidentally, these are nifty. I think I agree with YC though, about needing something more.. solid though :D

I've just spent the weekend on a sewing project with my grandmother, and now I'm thinking I should have actually paid attention to what she was trying to tell me!!!!

Thanks for the complements. It feels plenty solid already. All the force is essentially on a single continuous strap, with the only weak point being the buckle. I also soldered the D-rings before sewing them on to provide a bit of extra strength.

bambikiller, what do you mean by another D-ring to lock them? I can't easily fit another D-ring and still have it so versatile. It needs to be able to overlap itself.

Also, here's a velvet choker I made. I used a CNC embroidery sewing machine to stitch a silver estragen molecule.

Carabiners

work good for connecting cuffs, tethers, etc. In the picture, the silver part swings in to let you slip on straps, d-rings, etc. and is spring loaded to stay normally closed.

Unless the arm is tightly tensioned, the wrist can be bent enough to get it open pretty quick and slide it off.

There is a "locking" version (requires spinning a wheel several times around) which takes a lot more time to open if the "honor" system isn't working.

I want to learn how to sew, like...SO bad. I've been wanting to make my own clothes for forever now.

It seems as though the majority here wants to be able to free themselves.
Whats the point of the restrants then.
I'd want a way of locking them, I guess thats why I have handcuff.

Because there's such a thing as an emergency.

House catches fire while you're Dom's out getting ice cream, do YOU want to burn alive because you'd prefer to be totally helpless? You have a heart attack and are lying there dying? Have an allergic reaction and suffocate? Pass out from low blood sugar and slip into a coma?!

No freakin thanks. I'd prefer restraints I could escape -If Necessary- and I think the rest of us would too.

Having lived through the heart attack of my spouse....it just becomes something I think about (and not just in a sexual context). And satindesire's house fire scenario applies here too. There are all kinds of things that could happen that are well out of anyone's control. I am just an expert, it seems, at imagining all of the worst-case scenarios, unfortunately.

Saying that, I actually rather like the idea of the "restrained" person having to exhibit self restraint. As in, "while I do this, you may not touch yourself." Knowing one isn't physically restrained, but not allowed to behave otherwise. And perhaps I have adapted here to accommodate my worries about fires, floods and earthquakes. ;)

I barged in and started spouting my thoughts on restraints and just realized I never shared my thoughts on your work. Very nice temp256! And thank you for the instructions as well.

Look forward to hearing how they work out once you've used them.

Noooo - not the only one - have you not read Geralds Game by Stephen King???

Also - I did once find myself cuffed to a bed, using police issue hand cuffs, while the duvet caught fire from a candle on the bedside table!! I think your cuffs would have been more than useful in that situation. He didnt know where to turn first - release me or put out the fire!
