i went out for a smoke, and sat on the back porch. Shirtless, as usual, i felt the cool wind blow over me and through my hair, and the rustling of the tress and the sound of crickets chirping. I felt totally at peace, exposed to the spirits of autumn, could almost hear them speaking to me. It was a wonderful experience.

i recommend that everyone try it.

This Harvest Moon is coming up huge and copper-- last night it was big and brilliant once it cleared the horizon. Tonight we have a lot of clouds, though.

The last spiritual experience I had is not something a gentleman talks about.

I love Autumn. I always wander outdoors this time of year and see all manner of beautiful things that inspire me. This morning, I walked out in the yard and saw three beautiful deer eating the persimmons on the ground. They were so elegant, slender, quiet. I just stood for a long time and looked at them. They pondered me and then quietly ran into the forest.

The moon has been glorious to bask in lately. The air is cooling here (I woke up to 76 degrees this morning...it's the first time it's been under 77 in months) and the fierce heat is gentling to true outdoor welcome.

Ahh... that explains the driving yesterday. Has anyone else noticed how driving standards deteriorate around the time of the full moon?

Yes, I recommend that all the women try it... you can skip the smoke, but don't forget the shirtlessness... and I will have my spiritual experience vicariously

I notice I have a hard time sleeping. It's okay, I drag a pillow and blanket out onto the porch and moonbathe.

Sleeping porches. Screened in. Best idea since sliced bread.

Oh yeah. When I was growing up in New Jersey, nothing stopped me on full moon nights from walking to water. There was a park near my house and I could walk a few miles in bare feet through the woods, lit only by the full moon to a waterfall. My feet would get torn up every now and then, but it was worth it.

It's harder in Florida, as there are fire ants and alligators. Barefoot, water and dark is unfortunately now a very bad idea. I'm allergic to fire ants, so even grass on bare feet is a bad idea, although I have to do it every now and then. I run out to put my hand on a tree hoping there's no ants on the bark, or dig my toes into the grass. It's less peaceful and trancelike. It's much more a commando raid to grounding connection.

It's not the same as my youth, in a land with fewer seasons and entrenched denizens. But it's got the same call, and a beauty not to be missed.

The porch is a neutral zone.
