Have you ever challenged yourself to do something stupid. Like attempt to write 10 stories in a month?

I took it on myself to try it. I just submitted #9 for November.

The 8 that have been published so far are listed at the end of this message. Number 9 is entitled Six Months. Given the delay between submission and publication, it may not make the deadline of one month. Plus I still have one more to write.

It is interesting to note that the ones I spent a lot of time fussing over are no more likely to get good ratings than the ones that I just slapped down and cranked out in a fit of stream of consciousness writing.

There is probably a lesson there.

In 2003 I set myself a challenge to write the 50,000 words for NaNoWriMo with additional personal targets.

I wanted to write the 50,000 words, edit them and post them as a linked set of stories on Literotica by the end of November, given the then several days' delay in posting.

I succeeded, thanks to Laurel posting each part quickly.

The result is my 12-part Flawed Red Silk stories, starting here.

They remain as I left them at the end of November 2003.

I do not bother to challenge myself. If it comes, it comes. If not, I'll survive. I write stories that want to be written, not that I force myself to write. That's not fun. I'm only here for the lulz.

I posted 14 stories between 10 Aug and 10 Sep this year, although 2 of those had been worked on awhile, and 2 more were written then but posted later. When in the mood and not interrupted, I whip out up to 10k edited words (3 LIT pages) per day. Alas, if I'm on the forums, I'm not writing stories. I'm only busy if you don't see me here.

The challenge: find a tale that wants to be written.

One Winter Holidays contest I set the goal of entering a dozen stories in a dozen different categories. As I recall I did it.

Thanks for the feedback. I did manage to finish the two stories and just finished submitting them. I know they won't get published in time, but it was an interesting effort and for me doing something interesting is the fun.

It forced me to clear out a bunch of half assembled (half assed) concepts that I had kicking around in my story folder and now I feel like I can start on a different genre for a while.

I recently ran across a literal paper folder (not electronic at all) left over from a campaign a bunch of us were writing in G.U.R.P.S.

It will never see light of day in that format, but I think a lot of the concepts would make for an interesting fantasy series.

Just a follow up in case anybody cares.

I did get the last two stories in before the end of November. Now as I recall they did not get published until December 1st, but the listing in the Works section lists them as 11/29.

10 written and submitted in a month.

I guess I'll have to find something else stupid to try.

I wonder if anyone has ever written a story on their cell phone? Hmmm.
