The Popularity of Incest Stories

Incest has been one of the most popular drivers of erotica for a long time. The increase in it as a porn genre is because of Tube sites where companies that own sites like Pornhub have data mined what people searched for, watched, and how long they watched it, to find out what genres will sell. There’s a meta-effect in which people’s interest in this category and companies’ interest in profiting off it are driving each other.

I don’t think interest in real incestuous behavior is any more popular than interest in living in a post-apocalyptic zombie hellscape, it’s just that forbidden fantasies are titilating for a lot of people as long as it’s someone else who’s in danger.

I find the idea of real incest dangerous since it probably involves some sort of exploitation or abuse. I don’t mind the fantasy of people doing it in a way that is safe and makes them happy.

It's a really fun and naughty and taboo fetish.

More video companies are making it, including bigger name porn creators. But much of them call it "step mom" and "step son" but there's a *wink, wink* to it. You know they're actually hinting at real incest storytelling as opposed to 'step' incest.

It's one of the taboos that people are embarrassed to like... which makes perfect sense. No one wants to admit it. But if, let's a channel like Showtime, does a late night erotica with a 'step mom' in it, I guarantee the ratings would be a lot bigger than their other late night shows.

That's something of a stretch. Things have improved somewhat for trans folk, but shit like this and this still happens depressingly often.

Meanwhile, a prominent political candidate of the last couple of years repeatedly talked about being more attracted to his daughter than to his wife, and it doesn't seem to have hurt his candidacy noticeably. If he'd talked about being attracted to a guy his own age, now...
 
It's interesting concept. I started writing erotica 25 years ago. I'd never written an I/T story until 2012. It was just an idea I had, not really salacious, about first cousins. It was interesting to write, but there was the other side. I could never imagine, well, you know...

Since then, I've written most of the normal permutations of the theme with the exception of D/d because that's different to me. That's the one that I know would be the most common manifestation of incest and likely not pretty. I've tried. I have 45,000 words written on a story that I just can't finish. :eek: Maybe someday.

It has gotten a little more "mainstream" though in porn in my opinion. You had the early Taboo films which I'm sure were quite groundbreaking in their time. The newer stuff, not so much. There's never the build-up and anxiety that I feel are necessary. It's just, "oh he's my son, but look at his magnificent c***, I must have it," etc...
 
I've been avoiding this topic because, well, I think it comes up about twice a year, and I've said what I have to say.

An earlier comment made me wonder. Where is the line between something that is 'taboo' and something that is merely illegal? Murder, theft and all sorts of misbehavior are not socially acceptable, but they aren't 'taboo.' What is the distinction?

I'm pretty much with you on D/d stories. I wrote one once, and it sits in my files because I don't need it publshed. In it, the Dad (who suffered from depression) committed himself to psychiatric care because he was hurting people he loved.
 
One of the most peculiar things, to me, about the incest fan base is how many incest readers want to see mom get pregnant from the son. I don't get it. It's not a turn on for me, and I don't write stories that incorporate that development because it just seems too weird to me, but I do get occasional feedback comments from readers who want this to happen.

I get those too. Strange as the offspring could turn out to be so many things other than a normal human being. Yuck. Plus, it's not really a turn on for me either. Actually...never mind. :eek:

I'll agree. These comments have occurred all too often for me and I've only written one mom/son story. I think there's a symbiosis between select groups of incest fans and impregnation fans that want every female character "with child" by the end of the story. Not really my cup of tea.

Similar to that, I didn't know that parent/child relationships were another kink until recently.
 
I've written several incest stories, but I don't know anyone personally who has had sex with a relative. Maybe the rarity of it in real life is what excites people?

The kink is for the woman to get pregnant, regardless of the type of incest. If coitus is crossing the line, then pregnancy is crossing a much bigger line that requires even more commitment to the taboo and illegal relationship.

My own theory about the popularity of some incest stories:

In the mother/son variety, the son’s c**k is always ‘bigger than his father’, ‘the largest she has ever seen’, rebounds from orgasm to erection in mere seconds (if that), shoots ‘gallons of cum’, etc.

The woman (albeit a mother) and after the obligatory resistance, becomes insatiable with more powerful and numerous orgasms than she has ever had.

Ok, I realize this is a staple of many Lit stories, but the mother/son incest stories seem to exaggerate this to an extreme. And the reader thinks, ‘that could be me’ and lets themselves immerse in the fantasy. Transference.

Then, bringing in the sister, the aunt, etc. who ‘can’t get enough of him’ multiplies the cadence.

I think too that the fact that they live in the same house and interact so much, provides a milieu that the reader can relate to. Less likely are things like meeting a stranger on the streetcar, etc.

I think you've hit on something here.

Underlying the appeal of mom-son incest may be two deeply held impulses. For the son, it's the tension of the underlying conflict with the father, and the desire to grow up and replace him -- to become more of a man. For the mom, it's the desire to find a man more potent than her husband -- to make her feel like more of a woman. In all of my stories in this genre, dad is either physically present but unsatisfactory, or absent but still looming in the minds of the mom and son in some way to create drama and tension, and in either case the dad is to be replaced by the son.

The single M/S story/series I've written has two M/S relationships. The first is the son enters a relationship with mom with dad's knowledge and acceptance. This relationship was pre-existing when the story began. The second one is another cliché as the mom is a widow and the son has grown up and the resemblance with her late husband is uncanny (I know, I know :rolleyes:). But it's worked so far. I don't particularly like shaming or pseudo-cuckolding situations and don't want to write that sort of work. Just not for me.

I find the cross-generational stories harder to write for me. I suppose it's one of my personal qualms. I've tried repeatedly to write a D/D story, and I have a bunch of text and a lot of tail chasing to show for it. The M/S story took me 10 chapters before I built myself up to write it. I know there are awful true-life outcomes to all of these fantasy relationships, but the B/S or cousin relationships intrigue me most and that's what I tend to focus on.

To each their own, but as squicky as incest is at least its between people and not bestiality and pseudo bestiality.
