Started this based on a conversation with a former Lit author I keep in touch with.

Every category here has a story (or maybe a handful) that is the be all end all in its genre. The type of story where, let's say if you were an I/T reader for example. "If you haven't read....you're not a fan of the genre. That type of story. The one all others are compared to and judged by.

Thing about this thread is you have to think about the work of others, because no offense meant, but after spending last night thinking on the regular posters here, there might-and its might-be only one example here, and I'm not divulging it.

The other thing is, we know this is subjective, so we're not looking for a story YOU think is the best story, it's the one that has earned the reputation of it. The one that so many people fav and vote on and tout it has to be good. The one that if someone came here and said "I like to write group sex stories, what's one I could look at for inspiration."

Maybe the score isn't even that high for some reason, but the story is well regarded. I think that might be an LW exception or some other tougher voted genres(NC maybe) but I imagine most of these stories will at least show high on the most faved lists of the genre and site itself.

This is a topic I'm curious about in every category, but I don't read in many categories here and don't want to peruse lists and go by just stats, I'd like people who read those stories to say "Oh, this is THE story in that category."

I'll kick it off with Taboo. Paco Fear's Words on Skin. First, incest has factions and not everyone reads every type of pairing. But if your thing-and its my thing-is Brother/sister stories Words on Skin is the one to beat. It has the score and top five I think on the all time lit fav list maybe higher on the taboo fav list, but numbers aside it has everything the genre asks for, its sexy, its sweet, its romantic(Yes there is such a thing as taboo romance) and very well written. Going back to my point of its not about what we personally may think, this story is mentioned in any 'best i/t story" thread and in the genre PF is seen as a damn legend.

If I wanted to go Mother/Son well...TBH with alwayswantedtoo's stories gone, I really don't know which one would fit. Numbers wise it would be a mom son lap thing, but not sure they fall under genre defining as far as story content, they're pretty simple, just good numbers.

I was literally about to start something similar - the archetypes, such as the "We Need To Talk" variants in LW, or the Mom/son car journey/lap thing you mentioned in I/T.

I came across Master PC in Mind Control, and it set me to wondering just how many of these archetype stories there are, maybe now quietly gathering dust until some random search brings them back up to the light of day again...?

Archetype is a good term. @SimonDoom mentioned in another thread about seeking out popular stories as a way to see what works for the category and it got me to thinking...okay, where did that author get their story? All original with no influence? Was there a story they read that gave them some ideas?

Lit goes back 25 years and sometimes I wonder...who is the Patriarch/Matriarch of such and such story?

Onehitwanda's On the Simplicity of Words in lesbian sex and February Sucks in loving wives. Neat topic.
February sucks was my guess for LW and why I mentioned score because I don't think the score is that high, but it's spawned its own genre in people rewriting alternate endings, so it's obviously famous, or infamous in the category.

I think Words on Skin is a good choice because it's a rare story that not only is near the top of the list in views but is also well regarded, as shown by the score and its many favorites. It's a well-crafted story. It's an example of a story that has many features of a genuinely well-crafted, well-written story while also tripping the levers that make erotic stories popular to large numbers of readers.

I can't think of an equivalent mom-son story. Many of the mom-son stories near the top of the lists are, IMO, not that good.

I think this works better in terms of basic story type rather than category. Mom-son is very different from sister-brother. There are different types of Loving Wives stories and Exhibitionist stories. We probably all have different stories that influenced us way back.

As much as I appreciate Words on Skin, it wasn't an influence on me, because I didn't actually read it until a few years ago, after I'd already started writing stories. I've written a few brother-sister stories, but it's not as much my thing as mom-son. Who knows why.

One of the stories that got me interested early on in the "hot wife" type story was bobfr's story Home Business, from 2003, which is about a man who's somewhat down on his luck who is persuaded by a guy he meets at a bar to get his wife involved in making a porn website. For me, it touches on many of the themes that I find erotic and that have influenced some of my own stories: the good wife who gets naughty, the husband who wants to show her off, online exhibitionism, multiple sex partners, the emphasis on the slow, reluctant evolution toward sexual wantoness, etc.

Another "archetype" story for me was Davidwriter's Car Show Slut, which touches on another theme I enjoy and have focused on in writing--the well-heeled professional woman who turns into an exhibitionist, and more than that. That story dates back to 2006 and was one of the first stories of that type I can recall reading.

I'd been writing erotica for a couple years before I came here. Just stories sitting on my PC that my wife kept pushing me to publish to see what people thought. One of the things I'd written was a dark brother sister story and I had no idea if people here would want a story with their family fucking. Words on Skin, Alwayswantedto's mom son stories told me there was. I don't think they were influences as I was already writing, but they were great examples to me that the I/T crowd was receptive to slow burns, character development, and not just fucking.

Paco Fear's Words on Skin
This so many times over. Is it technically perfect? No. But oh fuck me it's good. It's what motivated me write "Alexis", so I guess it's all Pacofear's fault.

Edited to add: "The Rehab" in Romance. Again - maybe some technical issues, some spot of missing polish. But my God, what a ride.

Have you read Stolen Kisses by him? Its not quite as popular as WOS, but its another excellent sibling story.

When I started here, my first story was booted for dialogue tags and something else. I wasn't sure what to do so reached out to him. I was lucky enough he replied because he was already fading as far as writing went here. Even luckier he asked me to send him the story, which was a femdom piece and not his thing, but he looked it over and told me what to fix.

So I toss a good guy and very supportive in along with my praise for his work in the category.

He also has one the rare stories that have an E an H and a W...an I/T stories involved sisters and time travel.

I think I have read Stolen Kisses. But now I think I need to go and read it again, it's been... years. It's such a shame he stopped writing here.

Macallan Promises is the sisters, time stopping story. It's great in it's own right, but I have always strongly felt that it probably inspired Ariella-Chan's Crash into me, a personal favorite of mine. Combined with his having helped kicked off Onehitwanda's illustrious tenure here, it's safe to say Mr. Fear has left a very positive legacy here.

Though neither motivated me to write anything, both of these demonstrated to me that a writer can find success and a loyal following here with stories virtually void of any sexual content.

I used to chat with her. She reached out to me about some of my stories and I'm flattered that she considered me an influence on some of her work and style. Its a loss that she doesn't write here anymore.

In SciFi and Fantasy, which is the only category I can claim to know well, I would say Tefler's spectacularly long (millions of words) series Three Square Meals. It is not my thing, to be honest, but the gigantic series brought an enormous following to the author, and considering that even chapter #130 or so has over 3k votes in a moderately popular category like SciFi (at best), I guess it says something about its influence. I've also seen some authors trying to copy his themes and approach.

I sent her an email through the feedback portal 2 or 3 years ago to tell her how much I enjoyed her story. Honestly, all of them are great. She was very gracious in her response, sharing a lot of insight into how she developed the story. Her output here has always been very sporadic, and to me, she's a perfect example of quality over quantity. That said, I just hope she publishes again somewhere. It'd be a shame if she didn't.

Similar to the Loving Wives "February Sucks" franchise is the "Just Once, ... If You Don't Mind" open-ended invite by Kalimaxos.

The wife leaves on a six-week trip for her own sexual adventure (without discussion), leaving her husband a note with an unsolicited hall pass to fuck the neighbor wife and suggesting her husband decide whether they will stay married when she returns.

The author invited others to write their own sequels, and a quick search for "Just Once" shows over 30 sequels (including one of my own, where I experimented with a "pick your ending" choice of five.)

The original story in 2021 now is 7.7K words and has almost 120K views. But the author turned off voting, so it's unrated. The sequels range from almost 3 to almost 4.5 (my own being the worst.)

I was inspired to get started in writing Celebrity stories by Carnage Jackson’s Journal of an Agent series and KMB’s Harem series. The former series has an agent working in Hollywood who enjoys casual relationships with many of his clients who are famous actresses. Harem links several actresses and other female celebrities in a casual lesbian orgy network.

For swinging in general I go for the Group Sex novels of Nick Scipio and BlueDragon. They feature lucky guys involved in casual play with many hot bisexual women. My recurring male main characters are in similar relationships. :D

Great to find this thread. I've been surprised (shouldn't be) to really enjoy literotica. It's mixed though, with a lot of second rate writing (some of it from me!) but all's fair. I really enjoy it for my own sake. If there are some other good filters, like this all-too-short thread, I'd love to hear about tyhem.

These are the stories I was talking about, above. "Classics" that have spawned remakes, where the story appears to take on a life itself, seeding the Literverse.... As a relatively recent contributor to Lit, I haven't necessarily been around here long enough to witness the bigger picture.

Two more stories on the list. I will be following this thread with great interest. Thank you.

I don't think I agree there is such a thing, but I have a very limited reach, so. In T/CD, there are so many sub genres that it would be difficult to say one story rules them all. What I consider traditional T/CD where someone transitions and deals with all the angst that goes with it is complemented by stories where the gender change is either magical or chemical. Then there are Futa stories, and all the Daddy/Sissy stuff. Lots of longer romance stories (that's mostly what I write) and some basic wankers(stole that from our friends across the pond.)

I'd assume other categories are similar. How do you pick just one? I just don't see it. Besides, with all the different readers we have, well, there's accounting for their varied tastes, too.

This.

There is a big difference between a story about a torrid professor/student fling and a story about two old lovers checking into the same care facility, and rediscovering their bittersweet love.

And yet? Both go in "Mature."

Not sure it's possible for many of us to suggest anything outside our own interests, and that'll carry bias. So I'm unsure it's possible to make an "all things to all readers" sort of list like this.

True, but when another writer says, "This story is remarkable," I tend to pay more attention. Especially other writers chime in with their agreement. Maybe we should just rename the thread, Recommended Reading. :)

For I/T, the story I always promote is "With Mom's Help"

https://www.literotica.com/s/with-moms-help

Not because it has the best, literary type writing, but because it has the best framework. It gets straight the point with mom's motivation, a good one at that, and the foreplay and internal struggle which happens in the middle is fantastic. If you want to be good at writing incest stories, this is the one you study.

Another story which should be mentioned in this category is "Replacing My Cum Bucket"

https://www.literotica.com/s/replacing-my-cum-bucket

This is one is longer but it also gets straight to the point and has a lot of build up. There's a reason this has 2.5 million views and 1.5 favorites.
