I've been frequenting Literotica for almost 10 years, and the first thing that jumped out at me was the sheer number of incest/taboo stories posted. Today, it seems second only to good ol' bread-and-butter erotic couplings. Reminds me of my subscription to Penthouse back in the '80's, where a lesbian pictorial was almost obligatory. This leads me to believe that, like the Penthouse (a relatively mainstream adult mag) pictorials, the topic of incest/taboo is quite mainstream. It also indicates, at least in my opinion, a dark undercurrent to our society where this type of fantasy is common.

My morning two cents. Have a great holiday weekend, everyone!

Even now, after having written more than 3,000 stories under 15 different names, I'm amazed by how many readers what to read about the forbidden. Whether man or woman, even if they never had and/or never will have an incestuous experience, they all want to read incest stories.

The most popular incest stories, of course, are mother and son. Mother-in-law and son-in-law are very popular too. Even though, technically, it's not an incest story, as they're not related by blood but if they live in the same household, the story is incestuous.

Then, there's brother and sister, aunt and nephew, cousin with cousin, father with daughter, uncle with niece, and even grandmother with grandson and grandfather with granddaughter.

I've written them all. By far, mother and son incest stories typically garner in the low six figures in hits. My story, I Love You, Mommy, written under my WmForrester name was the most read story in all of 2010 and is still on the all-time most read list at #80 with more than 2 million hits.

I have published over 300 books, for pay. I have written erotica, scifi, adventure, hell, even YA. My incest stories are usually my best sellers. You note that I say stories. Everything that I write has a plot.

We'd said something similar.
Incest has become mainstream.
and the thread devolved quickly.

In part because people don't have a common understanding of what "mainstream" means.

Murder is an extremely popular subject for books, TV shows, and movies. Is murder mainstream? No, in the sense that it's not an accepted activity. Yes, in the sense that it's widely acknowledged as a perfectly acceptable subject for entertainment.

Incest is a very popular subject for books, TV shows (Game of Thrones, e.g.,), movies, and obviously porn. Is it mainstream? No, in the sense that the vast majority of people do not regard it as acceptable activity, and it's illegal (even adult consensual incest) in most places. Yes, sort of, in that it's part of entertainment, but I think it's something a lot more people are squicky about than murder. Plus, many people, even among those who enjoy reading erotic stories, find incest an uncomfortable or icky subject to read about.

Incest is an erotic subject where fantasy and reality diverge, and one should be cautious about drawing inferences about the real world from the popularity of it in the fantasy world of erotic literature.

The parallel between LGBTQ and incest is much better than that between incest and murder.
There is no need of governmental regulation of consensual sexual acts between adults.

Now personally I do not read incest, but I have written a hell of a lot because it sells. Is that the only reason I write it, yes and no but writing incest has sparked other types of stories that I write that aren't incest.

Oh by the way, everything I write is fiction. I have never written a true story since I started. If I did, anyone that decided to read it would be bored to tears.

I don't necessarily disagree with that. The purpose of drawing a parallel was just to make the point that because people read a lot of something doesn't mean that it's mainstream in the sense that they accept it as an acceptable thing to do in the real world.

Incest stories are popular because they are the last taboo, really. Most of what we used to think of as "naughty" when I was a kid has become acceptable. Infidelity, homosexuality, transgenderism..... these have all become embraced by society, and we've been trained to think of them as acceptable and normal. Incest is the only* thing that society and the media still tell us is wrong. And that makes it fun to fantasize about.

*well, okay, there are two other things, but they are not allowed at Lit.

I never understood what made it so illegal and wrong. Of course here in KY it's legal as long as it's no closer to third cousins.

Mercy! And I have a puny 8 incest stories since 2010! You're one motivated lady.

IMHO, there's a real thrill with sex when it's taboo - adultery, homosexuality, lesbianism, etc. Fucking the widow next door. Getting a blow job from the nubile college freshman. Although I've never had any interest with incest in the "real world", it does haunt my fantasies. The best orgasms happen in the playground of the mind.

I've noticed a lot of superhero movies at the box office and even on TV. Does this mean comic books are now mainstream, too?

Okay, I'm being snarky. I never noticed how often incest shows up in "mainstream" programming and novels until I started writing it. "Game of Thrones" is the big, fat, obvious one to point to, but it sure shows up in a lot of places, doesn't it?

For me, writing incest feels like picking the low hanging fruit. The taboo of it adds instant tension to the story. No one can know. It's wrong. It forbidden. etc. Does this mean incest is more popular in real life? Nah, I think it just easy drama to a story. Just my two cents worth.

Yeah but...I think we've tapped into something here.

With the average male not opening a book, except for the TV guide, a racetrack flyer, or a football schedule since graduating high school, they'll read incest stories.

Judging by the comments, personal messages, and e-mails I receive, unfortunately, much of the incest audience isn't very enlightened when it comes to literature or educated when it comes to writing bashing comments.

Yet, if Trump can have such a base of ignorant lowlifes, perhaps that's all that I can expect as my base from writing incest stories here. So be it. Not very judgmental, especially with my sexually abused and swinging lifestyle background, I'll take whatever I can get.

Not fussy who my reading audience is, just as it doesn't matter who's voting as long as they vote, it doesn't matter who's reading as long as they read.

Suffice to say, I dare write, we're not just writing incest stories but we're educating the masses. If we're anything, we're professors of erotica. We're doctors of erotic literature.

Dr. Susan Jill Parker. I like how that sounds. Suddenly, I feel so...proud and educated.

Agreed - not difficult to find incest, implied or explicit, in mainstream media. As for real life? Doubtful, although who knows the secret lives of some people, especially Literoticans? Of course, with incest fantasy, nobody gets hurt, there are no lasting emotional scars, etc. There's an almost insurmountable step between fantasizing about piloting a 747 and actually doing it.

Agreed, Dr. Parker, and I'm sure that with your volume of work, you receive a LOT of feedback, both good and bad. What little feedback I get is mostly positive, although the negative ones make me chuckle. Everyone has their opinion, but sometimes I have to roll my eyes. As with you, I'm not picky about who reads my work, however, I'd like to think there's a decent cross-section.

Even though I'm a survivor of sexual incest, having come to terms with it, and with writing my continued therapy, there's nothing wrong with incest between two consenting adults.

If a mother wants to have sex with her son and a father wants to have sex with his daughter, as long as everyone is willing and not forced, it's none of anyone's business.

Who better knows you than a sister, brother, or a cousin? Who better to share your life with someone who not only knows you but also appreciates you, even if they are blood related.

As long as you're not bringing children in the forbidden, incestuous relationship, go for it, read about it, and write about it while rejoicing that you finally found a lasting love.

When Freddie changes alts to post on the same thread, he really should use the standard Lit. font and font size, not the same one he uses as a female. Just saying.

:D It's good to know that I'm not the only one who caught that.

Incest stories squick me out. I had zero idea they were a thing until I looked at the top read stories on lit. It's one of the few genres that I totally don't get why anyone finds sexy......

This issue comes up frequently and some equate interest in the general population in incest with the interest showing at Literotica on the topic. But that's skewed perspective. Folks with the interest in reading it congregate at Literotica because there aren't a whole lot of places where it's hosted.

It seems some incest readers/writers push to make it seem that incest is a high interest of the general population. I don't think it is.
