at around what word count would one be better submitting to novellas instead of other categories

It doesn't really matter, in my experience. For one thing, when I've submitted stories under that category, they often end up under another category that also fits. Basically if it's fairly long and it doesn't clearly fit in some other category, use Novella. If it does fit elsewhere, use the other category no matter how long it is. (If you don't, Laurel probably will.)

There will be a click-on notice on the home page and a menu listing on the Story page, probably appearing sometime tomorrow.
The first stories are posting on the "New" list and I instantly got a "2" for my entry and my coauthored entry. I have a permanent "fan."

The more the merrier, right? Is there an etiquette; I guess trying to defy it adds flavor and/or color to the discussion. I guess there is only one rule here: don't be rude... ...oh no, there is a second one: no sex under 18
I'm trying to get something finished, trying to push my boundaries and step over my line in the sand, but now I wonder; is it okay to describe incest with a parent suffering from dementia? Both morally and according to the Lit-rules? It won't be the hottest scene ever written, but it should bring some perspective to the main character.

I doubt it’ll get a lot of votes, but these contests are about pushing our own limits, I think. Go for it.

A 'thank you' can never defy etiquette. The Threads here often tend to be more of a casual conversation. The Author's Forum can actually have thoughts expressed without a link to Tumblr or a porn clip
Not knowing the details, it seems that this could be treated softly if said sexual activity was done for compassion toward the other and not based on self indulgence or lust. From what I've read of your work, you can probably do it if anyone can.
