It's like watching a distant relative decline into senility. Painful, sometimes embarrassing. What happened, I wonder.
 
What I like best about him is that he confines ALL of his rants to only his own threads. So iggy actually works for him.

The only time I bump into him is when someone else crosses paths with him and I notice the post in a search.

He is bizarre in the contradictory positions that he supports. Ordinarily, I like that in a poster (or a person IRL) it shows they are engaging in their own set of rationalizations and critical thinking.

In his case he is all over the map and on the wrong side of everything.

He will start with a valid observation about human dynamics especially his men vs women stuff, then leap to exactly the wrong conclusions and his solutions are worse yet.

Beyond odd.

I never knew him as LT, but how do you go from a submissive moniker like that to the angry all-women-suck LJ I know him as?

The thing is, it's not a matter of him being "wrong" on any particular issue. His brain isn't wired right. When facts contradict his beliefs, he refuses to accept that they are facts. Lots of people do that as a rhetorical device, but I am convinced that he actually lives in a separate reality wherein whatever he believes is so, and damn anything that contradicts him.

He is also incapable of grasping basic logical constructs such as averages or typical examples. A classic example of that would be his insistence in one thread that the statement "The average Japanese man is shorter than the average American man" must be false.In the real world, that's a simple matter of statistical comparison. In LT Land, it's racist stereotyping.

tl;dr: He's nuts.

It's called "Epistemic Closure" and a trademark of the whackadoodle right, mostly. Base your facts on opinions, rather than opinions based on facts.

It allows uneducated buffoons like Vetteman to pass judgment on President Obama's quote lack of education unquote.

I had a similar experience with people not knowing the difference between a racial charteristic and a racist attitude or statement. When you start out up here you end up on fully depriciated equipment. It took me a year and a half to have first pick. (/humble brag) I saw someone struggling on a hill, and new from experience what the problem was as far as exhaust temps getting high and that cascading faults that result in an engine derate and even less power. The solve is stop, turn it off, turn it on. (Just like windows) The time it takes to do that cools the turbos and the reset clears the engine protecting derate.

I caught barely a glimpse and the guy was definately black. At the time we had 16 operators from the Congo in training. I assumed it was one of them, not an experienced driver from another crew, stuck on a suck-ass piece of equipment on overtime. I knew it wasnt Lee because I knew what Lee was operating so I (wrongly) assumed one of our imported operators.

I called over the radio, helped the guy out and only later realized who was on the truck.

I was apologizing to him in the van for telling him how to operate, I explained, "I thought you were one of our African friends." The Africans were known for being exceedingly polite, speaking with french-ish accents and mostly coming to a dead stop when in doubt.

He just smiled. A guy in front of us whips his head around and says, "I can't BELIEVE you just said that!"

"What?" I couldnt get what he was getting at.

"That you thought he was AFRICAN."

"I'm pretty sure at least one of his ancestors was!"

This made my new friend laugh. He explained to the guy the difference between being "racial" as he called it and "racist."

People do not simply put themselves in the other persons shoes and say to themselves, "Is this thing I am about to say hurtful, or embarrassing to the other person." Pretty simple.

You can actually say things that out of context are racist, but in context are not because of the clear irony with which they are expressed.

Chris had a black mother from England and an Italian father who he never knew until Facebook connected them. He grew up in Brooklyn and then served in the Airforce. He is obviously ethnically black, caught plenty of shit for his proper articulation from his English mother.

He is 150 miles away at the nearest QuickTrip. He posts up on facebook, "MMM, watermelon slushie, my favorite." It actually is a favorite of his, and yes he was being ironic on purpose.

So I said, "Do you HAVE to foster the stereotype that Italians do nothing but lounge around eating gelato?"

In other context insulting him as a stupid wop based on his last name would be hurtful.

Because I grew up at exactly the right time to be one of the last schools in the deep south to be forced to integrate, these topics came up early. A child has to be taught prejudice. I was aware that a lot of the non-catholic neighborhood white children fled to catholic school, but couldn't understand why. Fortunately my parents were better than that.

TL;DR A long rambling collection of stories that had a point when I started typing them.

I am pretty sure LT's politics are a lot closer to the ones you have adopted to fit in. Since you are obviously not particularly politically astute I'll cut you some slack for not knowing the difference between a supporter of avowed communist bernie sanders and the right wing.

I used to wonder about why he was called LT and that's when many of the older posters here gave me the most wonderful lesson in Lit history.


I think bronzeage is best at telling the LT to LJ_R story. Well, I like his version so I hope he'll notice this thread and post an explanation.


I made this thread as my own homage to his great (accidental) comic genius.

BTW query, you seem to have stepped into some cow-poo- it's been trailing you around the board.

Growing up, we had a living room for company only off the entry way and a family room off the kitchen.

The living room had a large Persian rug. Because it was uncluttered and a nice open space to do splints and what not, my mom (who was an RN) held the little first aid merit badge class for us boy scouts there.

Midway through the class I saw mom's smile go a little tight. A couple of the boys had come from the family business. A slaughterhouse. Dried cow-dung was flaking off their boots onto the Persian.

The funny thing is she completely understood. Her folks had a small dairy and grandpa ran a truck and tractor rig and a welding shop.

Funny you should ask because I have a theory.

LT was always trying to convince us how tough he thought he was, what a great dad he thought he was (would be) and so on. We here on the GB didn't buy it and we called him on it all the time. We eventually broke him by ridiculing him and knocking him down to size (pint), day in day out. One day he woke up, saw who he was and figured that the only people he could turn to for support and be accepted as one of their own, were other whiny men.

He has so much potential to join the rwcj.
