Descriptions and Motivations

"The Convicts"
-- They have the following in common:
-- They come from Federal Prisons.

-- They are all on Death Row.

-- They have exhausted the appeals process.

-- If they succeed in reaching The Whitney before 8pm, Sunday, they get:
-- A full pardon for their Federal Crimes.

-- A $1 million dollar prize.

-- A fresh start with a new identity, if they choose anonymous relocation.

-- If they are captured or simply don't reach The Whitney on time, they will return to Death Row.

"The Cops"
-- Former Law Enforcement; some are on Death Row while others are serving life w/o parole.

-- They are competing for:
-- Pardons or commutations for their misdeeds.

-- Bonuses:
-- "Capture": for taking prisoners.

-- "Kill": increases if hand-to-hand or otherwise up-close-and-personal.

-- "Personal Assault" (ie, rape): increases proportional to audience "appreciation" (as indicated by phone in votes).

CHARACTER PROFILE SHEET:
1. Do not spend a bunch of time making your profile perfect. Your host is one anal SOB and will edit the format (and maybe even a bit of content) in an attempt to make all profiles look the same ... so, don't fret over perfection.

2. Block and copy the profile sheet into a PM. DO NOT post the profile to the OOC or the Discussion thread.

3. Make your answers brief and leave some mystery concerning your character. As the game is played, we will learn more about your character.

4. PM the completed form to the Host, AnotherOldGuy.

5. After his OCD allows him to edit it properly, he will post it to the OOC and -- once we have enough characters -- we will get started.

6. OldGuy, as I will sometimes refer to myself -- to prevent confusion between the "RP Host" and the "BATW Host" -- recommends that each writer submits at least 2 characters. People are going to die; and at other times, people will simply be inactive, with nothing to post. If you want to have fun, have multiple characters.
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

WRITER'S ID:

CHARACTER'S NAME: (The name on their prison record.)

CHARACTER'S GAME NAME: (The name they choose for the competition, something snazzy or hip or scary or what ever.)

CHARACTER'S PIC, GENDER, AGE, AND PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:
(A note about pics: no famous celebrities, no anime or graphic art, no overwhelming advertising, no hotlinks to other sites. If you don't know how to do this, ask. I will help.)

CRIME FOR WHICH YOU WERE CONVICTED: (Do not comment on whether you are or are not guilty of your crime.)

LENGTH OF YOUR SENTENCE: (Lengthy or Life; no Death Penalties)

PERSONALITY: (Meek, bad ass, gang member, what ever. Be vague if you want but give us what others would notice about you within a few minutes of conversing with you.)

DETAILS THE BATW HOST WOULD KNOW AND PRESENT TO THE AUDIENCE: (Family, friends, associations; stuff that would make the audience either love you or hate you.)

ANYTHING ELSE THAT YOU WANT TO SAY NOW: (Remember, you can leave some stuff vague. OldGuy can add it as the RP unfolds.)

WRITER'S ID:
southern_slut

CHARACTER'S NAME:
Elizabeth Nunez

CHARACTER'S GAME NAME:
Chica

CHARACTER'S DESCRIPTION:
PIC
Female, 24, Latina
Brunette hair, brown eyes.
Athletic body, 36c breasts.

CRIME FOR WHICH YOU WERE CONVICTED:
Homicide: 2 victims, her lover and his wife.

LENGTH OF YOUR SENTENCE:
Life

PERSONALITY:
Bubbly, talkative, slightly childish.

Willing to abandon allies to save herself, bratty, spoiled, extremely self obsessed.

DETAILS THE BATW HOST WOULD KNOW AND PRESENT TO THE AUDIENCE:
Raised wealthy in Los Angeles, went to college where she was having an affair with her Professor. When he failed to leave his wife for Elizabeth, she killed them both in a rage. She's been known to use sex to control others and even came to use this to secure herself safety in prison. As a coward, she's often used her body to win allegiances and pit others against themselves for either her own survival or even amusement.

ANYTHING ELSE THAT YOU WANT TO SAY NOW:
I prefer to make the sex scenes violent and graphic. If Elizabeth were to succeed, I'm expecting she will be beaten extensively. Any permanent scarring or damage would lead her to suicide, her looks are the only feature she cares about.

Host's Comment: I will take this into consideration when planning what may or may not happen to her in the Arena.

PERSONALITY:
Mature and serious.

She knows that BATW is her last chance for freedom, and she doesn't intend to waste it by messing around.

She is impatient and short tempered and very strong willed.

DETAILS THE BATW HOST WOULD KNOW AND PRESENT TO THE AUDIENCE:
Marie was a Security Consultant attached to the President's office until he was assassinated. She was found guilty of conspiracy and helping to plan the assassination.

She is strong willed and has survived in prison through a mixture of attitude and street smarts.

ANYTHING ELSE THAT YOU WANT TO SAY NOW:
Not particularly, I'm fairly open about what happens.

Host's note: I am going to build up the audience's hatred for her as a traitorous anti-American. They're going to love hating her! :D The ratings are going to soar!

"Introduction"

This is being edited significantly but I ran out of time, so don't bother reading it yet ... because the finished product will be radically different.

The Story: In the near future, as violence and graphic sex come to rule the cable and online sports and entertainment industries, "Breakfast at the Whitney" is born.

Two teams compete within The Arena, a half dozen abandoned blocks of downtown Detroit, now surrounded by razor wire and twenty foot walls, machine gun towers, sniper nests ... and audience viewing areas!

BATW features a team of Convicts -- men and women both, each one awaiting execution -- who, if they can survive for 48 hours, will win pardons, huge cash prizes, and fresh starts with new identities.

Standing in their way is a team comprised of disgraced Police Officers and Military Personnel -- which I will refer to here as "The Cops" until I find a better "team name" -- removed from their careers for a various deeds of misconduct. They are fighting essentially the same thing: pardons, cash, and new beginnings, including for those who wish it, reinstatement to their old professional lives.

How the RP works:
1. The Convicts are written by the Writers. Writers are encouraged to write more than one Convict ... because people will die.

NOTE: It is not my goal to kill off all the characters,
which will be spoken more about below.

2. Through headsets, the Convicts are in visual and audible contact with one another, allowing them to see and hear anything they want that is being seen or heard by one of their cohorts. (The reason for this is simple: the writers "see" and "hear" everything that is posted in the IC thread, therefore it is only logical that I must allow the Convicts to do the same.)

3. The Convicts will not know where the Cops are until and unless they come across them or get attacked by them. Once a single convict learns the location of a Cop, all Convicts due (per step 2 above). However, ... once the Cop escapes viewing, were back to Marco...! Polo...!

4. The RP Host (me) will write the part of the Game Show Host and the Cops. Obviously, I could kill all of the Convicts by in the first two minutes simply by saying, You're all dead! ...and unleashing a hail of gun fire. But, where's the fun in that, right? The goal of the RP for me is not to win; the goal is to create the best RP you've ever participated in. So, no worries there; the Cops will kill and be killed, torture and be tortured, rape and be raped, etc and etc., just as with the Convicts.

5. Prior to the beginning of the competition, the Convicts will "take a tour" of the arena together. This is the writers' opportunity to ask questions about The Arena.

6. BATW begins Friday evening and ends Sunday, 48 hours later. The Convicts may attempt to finish the Competition at any point ... but, don't get impatient: The Convicts begin with the most basic of weapons and, I'm sorry to say, these do not include firearms. Weapons caches are "revealed" to the Attackers over the course of the 48 hours. In addition, Convicts can lay claim to any weapon they take from a Cop ... but be aware that some weapons are not as useful or dependable as you may first believe. (Think "duds" and "booby traps".)

Notes About Using Street View

Where the Street View Images Come From:
The source of the Street View images is very basic: Google fitted the roofs of cars with globes, filled with cameras, and drove them around town, recording everything in a 360 sphere. (I actually saw the car mapping Springfield, Oregon; it was a Volkswagen beetle, with a two foot (or so) globe filled with cameras sitting atop a mount on the cars roof.) In case you've never seen it done

More coming... tired ... bed time.

WRITER'S ID:
SweetAsSuga

CHARACTER'S NAME:
Gwen Harris

CHARACTER'S GAME NAME:
Athena

CHARACTER'S PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:
PIC
Female, 23
Brown, wavy hair; hazel eyes.
Petite, very fit and yet remaining feminine looking.

CRIME FOR WHICH YOU WERE CONVICTED:
Arson and homicide: Setting fire to three federal government buildings. The fires resulted in the loss of five lives.

PERSONALITY:
Ice queen. Willing to do anything and everything she has to in order to stay alive. If you stand in her way, you are going down.

DETAILS THE BATW HOST WOULD KNOW AND PRESENT TO THE AUDIENCE:
At 17, she got pregnant and dropped out of high school to raise her son. She was arrested in the middle of her son Mason's seventh birthday party. When Mason tried to stop the "bad men" from taking his mother, one federal agent hit the boy with the butt of his gun. Someone video taping the party caught it all on tape and the video went viral on the web. Mason is now trapped in foster care and Gwen will do anything to get him back.

ANYTHING ELSE THAT YOU WANT TO SAY NOW:
Gwen's in-game name comes from the Greek goddess of war. It symbolizes the fact that Gwen will take no prisoners in her fight to win her freedom and her son.

(Sorry, posted an IC reply here on accident. Will eventually fill this space with something of use.)

Google Street View Map
of
The Arena

The Nitty Gritty Details

Still being edited. Ignore for now.

Below are the rules, guidelines, hints, etc., concerning the Google Street View Maps we will be using as The Arena.

Various Maps:
The Arena Perimeter
The Arena Perimeter is constructed of three different types of "barrier":
The Solid Wall:
-- A 20 foot high, 6 foot thick, cinder block wall.
-- The entire inner surface, as well as the top, are covered by thick razor wire.
-- This map shows the wall as a blue line. The wall goes down the middle of the roads.

-- The Stationary Glass:
-- a 20 foot high, 4 inch thick bullet-proof, shock-proof, explosive proof sheet of transparent material
The Arena Wall -- Satellite View View -- The blue lines indicate where the 20 foot, razor wire-protected wall is built.

The BATW Rounds of Battle

(FYI: This schedule is a work in progress. Right up until the point at which we begin the RP, I will be adjusting it as new ideas come to me. If you see something that sparks an idea, please PM me. As always, please don't post in the OOC.)

Thursday:
The Convicts take a day time tour of The Arena. (OOC -- This is the writers' opportunities to ask questions about the arena.)

Friday
Noon: The Convicts and Cops meet for a civil lunch, hosted by Marcus Bennett.

7 pm: The Pre-Show begins, introducing the Combatants. (The Pre-Show is aired on free cable as well as the Pay-Per-View channel, to drum up business from the prior for the latter.)

8-10 pm: Round 1, "Individual Combat":
-- The Convicts -- who begin the Round unarmed -- are given a "Head Start", 10 minutes to scatter across the Arena. The Convicts' Comms are Linked, allowing each of them to hear what the other Convicts are saying and, with a simple voice command, producing a heads up display on the inside of their goggles to see what the Convict of their choice is seeing.

-- After the "Head Start", the Cops -- who are armed, with hand-to-hand combat weapons and non-lethal fire arms -- enter the Arena from any of a number of established entry points.

-- The name "Individual Combat" is derived from two elements of Round 1:
-- The Cops enter individually from a variety of locations within the Arena. No one Cop knows what entry point another Cop might be entering from, so they are, initially, on their own.

-- The Cops' Comms are not Linked, which means that they initially cannot see or hear another Cop

-- If 2 or more Convicts are withing 30 yards of one another, their Comms activate a Location Beacon ... and their location is broadcasted to the Cops ... all of the Cops!

-- Round 1 is 2 hours long. During this 2 hours:
-- Kill bonuses are not given to the Cops, therefore Lethal Force is of no benefit. However, Rape, capture, and other "Performance" Bonuses are paid.

-- To prevent them from simply hiding for the 2 hours, a Convict's Locator Beacon will activate if they don't keep on the move. The Referees define what keep on the move is, rather than establishing preset distances and times; and, if necessary, the Enforcers encourage the Convicts to move, using a variety of methods.

10 pm - 12 am: "Midnight Rest Period"
-- All combat ends. Convicts are free to remain where they are when Round 1 ends or return "Home", unmolested. Violators of the no fighting rule will be punished.

(More to come. Ran out of time.)

CHARACTER'S NAME:
Richard Manchester

CHARACTER'S GAME NAME:
Big Dick

CHARACTER'S DESCRIPTION:
PIC
Male, 42.
6'2", 202#; very muscular
Shaved head (naturally dark haired); dark brown eyes.
A tattoo of an artistic "S" (for Samantha) fills most of the outside of his left upper arm).
Scars: 3 bullets, lower back, left; knife, right lower back, over his kidney.

CRIME FOR WHICH YOU WERE CONVICTED:
Murder (35 counts); Aggravated Rape (10 counts).

LENGTH OF YOUR SENTENCE:
Consecutive Life Terms without parole.

PERSONALITY:
Rowdy, loud, rambunctious.
Chauvinist, Sexist; believes that a woman who has sex out of wedlock should "part her thighs to any man who asks".
Brutal, unforgiving of criminals.

DETAILS THE PUBLIC KNOWS AND/OR THE BATW HOST WOULD PRESENT:
Seattle Police Department, 12 years; the last 5 in Narcotics.

After his girl friend, Samantha, died of an overdose, he went on a rampage against drug dealers. In 12 incidents prior to the one that led to his capture, he killed a total of 18 dealers and raped 5 women, 3 of whom he killed; all of his victims were directly associated with the dealing end of the business. He took one of the women hostage -- a "mule" directly connected to the drugs that killed Samantha -- and raped her daily for three weeks before she simply died on him.

Richard never harmed an "innocent" person, including any of a number of drug addicted people he could very well have killed and/or raped, too. He was only going after the people dealing the drugs, the people he deemed responsible for his girl friend's death.

The Press was calling the as-of-yet unidentified killer and rapist "The Seattle Slaughterer" because of the brutality of the murders and rapes. But behind closed doors, others -- including some on the police force -- were calling the man a hero. Drug dealers were fleeing the city, and those who weren't were hiding so deeply that they could hardly do business. Street prices were rising rapidly, with polarized results: many drug users who couldn't afford the new prices were filling treatment centers, while others only ramped up their burglary habits to get the money to support their addictions.

Eventually, as the evidence began to point toward a cop, and finally toward a Narcotics Division detective, and as even he himself was questioned, Richard discovered the location of the Distributor who he was certain had supplied the drugs that killed Samantha. He stole a boat and slipped onto the man's island home in the San Juans, using a silenced pistol to take out the Distributor's guards and, eventually, take all those in the house hostage.

For six days, he held the home and the people in it. He tortured the Distributor in an effort to get names of contacts and locations of drug and money stashes. Before the Distributor's eyes, Richard raped the man's wife, a mule for the "family" business; Richard forced him to watch by threatening to rape the man's 14 year old daughter, who Richard was holding in a boat house out of the range of the screams, protestations, and on occasion pleading of her parents. During the six days, several boats arrived -- dealers and their associates -- and Richard killed those men and raped those women as well.

By the time the affair was uncovered and the island was swarmed by the State Police, FBI, and Coast Guard, as well as the Royal Canadian Police (due to the proximity to Canada and the mooring of Canadian registered boats at the island's dock), Richard had killed 14 men and raped 5 women. (The daughter was taken away, never having known of the horror Richard had committed.)

He was taken into Federal Custody and, after proudly admitting to every crime he'd committed, given 45 separate life sentences -- 35 for murder or manslaughter, 10 for aggravated rape, to run consecutively. Richard was never going to see freedom again ... until BATW came about.

BATW HISTORY:
May 2028 will be his 7th BATW episode.

Richard has an undisclosed contract with BATW and the Federal Government. The terms include:
1. For every male Convict, he kills, one life sentence for murder or manslaughter is deleted from his sentence.
2. For every female Convict he rapes, one life sentence for aggravated rape is deleted from his sentence.
3. He has already killed 3 female Convicts during his previous BATW episodes, so he no longer benefits from killing anymore ... so he tries not to. (He killed 3 women during his spree of revenge.)
4. Once he has "balanced" the score board, he will be released to an island prison camp where he will live in relative comfort, apart from the "public" but still a relative free man.

Richard -- whose performance name is "Big Dick" -- has killed 11 male Convicts and raped 6 females, 3 of whom he killed.

"Breakfast At The Whitney"

ISO 3-5 male characters (1 or more characters per writer); already have 3 female characters but 1 or 2 more wouldn't hurt.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Basic Story:
Remember "Running Man", with Arnold Schwarzenegger? Similar ... but at the same time, radically different.

In the near future, as reality violence and prime time porn came to rule the sports/entertainment industry, "Breakfast at the Whitney" was born.

Convicts facing the Death Penalty were given an opportunity: survive a life or death, 48 hour "reality show" and win your freedom, a $1 million dollar prize, and a new start with a new identity.

The Convicts can attempt this feat working as a team or striking out on their own. But either way, standing in their way will be a better armed, better trained, more organized, and possibly more vicious and brutal team ... disgraced Cops, who themselves are facing Death Penalties or Life Sentences for a variety of illegal deeds and looking for a way out of their punishments.

Story Details:
The Battle takes place in the "Arena", a 6 block, walled-off section of Detroit abandoned after years of economic decay and, more recently, a terrorist dirty bomb.

The competition begins Friday evening and runs, in battle and rest stages, until Sunday, 48 hours later. Some battle stages feature one-on-one fights while others feature team combat; early fights begin with a combination of non-leathal weapons while the later ones can include automatic machine guns, flame throwers and more.

And all the while, a world wide audience is watching on Pay-Per-view, as well as from stands and extravagant hotels encircling the Arena, some with Sky Bridges that allow the privileged to look right down into the battle areas.

How the Role Play works, and what you need to do or have to be part of it:
1. The Convicts, as well as some of the non-combatants, are played by the Writers. I recommend that each writer plays more than one character, a Primary Character and 1 or more Secondary Characters. Why? Characters die, and if you are only playing one and he/she dies ... well, too bad, so sad.
NOTE: It is not my goal to kill off all the characters, which will be spoken more about below.

2. The RP Host (me) will write the part of the Game Show Host, the Cops, and some of the non-combatants. Obviously, I could kill all of the "Convicts" in the first two minutes simply by saying, You're all dead! ...and unleashing a hail of gun fire. But, where's the fun in that for me or you, right? The host's goal is not to win; the host's goal is to provide a fun role play, which isn't achieved by killing y'all off in the first few hours. However, don't take that as license to get stupid and run into a hail of gunfire. Convicts who get stupid tend to get dead!

3. The Arena is based upon a real neighborhood in Detroit, Michigan, and writers need to be able to familiarize themselves with the neighborhood. We will be using Google Street View as our "maps". (There will be a full section on how to use Street View for the purposes of this RP.)

4. Prior to the beginning of the Competition, the Convicts -- which, of course, means the writers -- will "take a tour" of the arena. This is an opportunity to learn details about the Arena.

5. The battle begins Friday evening and ends Sunday, 48 hours later. The "Convicts" may attempt to finish the Competition at any point ... but, don't get impatient. They begin with no weapons and only get them by either making them from items they can scrounge, stealing them from the Cops, or waiting for weapons caches to be made available ... and all of this takes time.

6. The Competition ends one of three ways:
a. All of the Convicts are captured or killed. (Historically, this has happened about 1/4 the time.)

b. Time runs out and no Convicts have reached the Whitney alive. (This happens about 1/2 of the time.)

c. Time runs out and some of the Convicts have reached the Whitney alive. (This happens about 1/4 of the time. The most Convicts to reach the Whitney in any one episode was 3.)

d. The last of the Cops is killed or injured beyond competitiveness and the remaining Convicts reach the Whitney. (This has never happened!)

7. The Role Play itself ends when we are tired of writing it. Hopefully, that won't be until after the battle ends, but hey, you never know, do you.

If this sounds interesting to you, I have created a Writers Discussion Thread for this particular role play.

Almost always frowning (at the world in general).

She is a bad ass from the time she wakes up to the time she goes to sleep.

She has taken to "Yakuza" idea in the extreme. This covers a very deep and buried insecurity and a self-hatred of her being a 'hot Asian chick'. She has turned this now venomous hatred out on the whole world. She takes what she wants and will beat up or kill someone to keep it.

DETAILS THE BATW HOST WOULD KNOW AND PRESENT TO THE AUDIENCE:
She was in the feared "Fire Tigers" Yakuza clan on the west coast of the US. She was the enforcer and second in charge of the "Spider Tigers", an all female street gang associated with the Fire Tigers. She was born into the clan in Tokyo but came to the US at 15.

At 17, she married an American to keep her resident status. They hadn't been together since their honeymoon, and when she was sentenced, he divorced her.

She has dealt drugs, prostituted herself, and in her role as enforcer, assaulted and killed many times over. The last murder charge was plead down from assassination.

She has a boyfriend, Toshiro Endo, Chief Enforcer of the US Fire Tigers, who were placed on the list of terror organizations as the result of dealing arms and buying drugs from the Far East. Her relationship with Endo includes rough sex, which helps her "get her jollies", her writer states. :D Endo is on his way up the Fire Tigers chain of command, and Hitomi hopes that being his girl will help her as well.

She is well trained in karate and use of the katana, as well as knife and guns. There is a photo of her beheading a traitor to the Fire Tigers.

ANYTHING ELSE THAT YOU WANT TO SAY NOW:
I figure Hitomi is one of the WORST of this lot. She will either win or die REAL early and in a thrilling and exciting manner. I will enjoy the 'ride' though.

Host's Note: Sounds like maybe I'll have to arrange a good fight for her.

CRIME FOR WHICH YOU WERE CONVICTED:
Murder multiple counts.

SENTENCE:
Death Penalty.

PERSONALITY:
Withdrawn bad-ass.

DETAILS THE BATW HOST WOULD KNOW AND PRESENT TO THE AUDIENCE:
Raised by his dad; mother died at childbirth.

His father was a "Survivalist" and trained Dean. Dean's father had one addiction: gambling. When he was 12, his father was killed by a group of people that he owed money too.

Dean was sent to a foster home. He taught the bigger kids very quickly that just because he was withdrawn it didn't mean that he was defenseless.

He continued studying all martial art forms that he could get his hands on. He was adopted at 15, but that ended badly as the step-father came home one night and, in a drunken rage, decided to take his frustrations out on Dean. The man ended up in hospital, and Dean slipped away and dropped from the radar.

Four years later, Dean emerged again when he went after the same people who killed his father. After brutal killings and near captures by the Police, he turned his attention to bigger game. By now Dean was deadly in hand-to-hand combat, combining all the techniques that he had learned over the years. In the time he spent out of the system, he trained himself as a crack shot with pistols and rifles.

During his vigilante spree he killed all types of people, but always made certain that they we're guilty; drug-dealers, prostitution rackets, rapists, murderers, and any type of law breaker he hunted down and killed.

It was when Dean went after a corrupt cop that he got caught during a drawn-out gun fight. He did get his man, but it had also given the Police SWAT teams enough time to shut down any escape. He had to give up or die. He gave up.

He admitted to all 125 counts of murder and got the death sentence; he showed no remorse for his actions.

During his wait for his execution, Dean actually helped the Prison Riot Guard to stop an attempted escape by 50 of the inmates. Again he left bodies in his wake, but helped any guard that he could. In light of these actions he was deemed still too dangerous to be part of society, but as he did show that he had mercy, the court would show mercy on him and make his sentence Life instead of death.

Host Note: Marcus is going to pull strings and get the Death Penalty reinstated because he wants this combatant for BATW.
