Ice cold, fresh, sweet, ripe watermelon. Did God give us anything better?

That initial crisp crunch as your teeth pierce into the rich red ripe flesh. Teeth tearing a gash in the flesh. The juice spurts out, flooding your mouth with a sweet wetness, a little dribbling down your chin. Sweet, sticky, free-flowing juice. Mmmmmmm.

Oh. Help me.

And the aroma is heavenly, too. The fresh scent of a cold cucumber, but with added layers of bright sweetness.

Yum.

YES!! I'm almost moaning just thinking about it.

Mmmm, dripping fruit. It can get quite messy, too.

Luckily, cleanup can be ever so much fun, with the right friend.

For me it was fresh pineapple today. Chilled golden slices exploding with juice.

I love to grill whole thick slices of golden pineapple. Smoky. Sweet. Perfectly caramelized. Delectable.

Grilled pineapple drizzled with honey and a squeeze of lime.

Yeah, that's right.

*Adds grill, charcoal, fresh pineapple, and fresh lime to shopping list*

Okay, Susie thinks this sounds gross (and I'll admit, I did when I first encountered it, too), but it's really, really tasty.

Crack Dip

equal parts (8 oz each) mayo and small curd cottage cheese
1 packet Hidden Valley Ranch Original Dressing mix (not buttermilk, not dip mix)

Mix thoroughly, chill, and dip veggies and/or pretzels. It's very highly addictive.

gravy, I've had that except she also added super thin sliced deli ham chiffonade, so there bits of ham running thru the dip...SO fucking good!

Stuffed Garlic Bread

• 1 unsliced loaf french bread
• 6 tablespoons butter
• 1 whole head of fresh garlic -- peeled and chopped fine
• 7 teaspoons sesame seeds
• 1/4 cup parmesan cheese -- grated
• 1 1/2 cup sour cream
• 2 cups monterey jack cheese -- cut into 1" cubes
• 2 teaspoons lemon pepper
• 2 teaspoons parsley
• 2 cups chopped artichoke hearts

Cut loaf in half lengthwise. Tear out soft center of bread in chunks, leaving crust
intact. Put crust shells on a foil covered cookie sheet, crust sides down. Melt
butter in a large skillet, stir in garlic and sesame seeds. Cook for 1-2 minutes on
medium heat (don't burn the garlic!). Stir in torn bread chunks, and cook until
golden brown and butter has been absorbed. Remove from heat. In a very large
bowl combine sour cream, jack cheese, parmesan, parsley and lemon pepper. Stir
in artichoke hearts and toasted bread (garlic bits too!). Mix well and spoon back
into bread shells. Lay them both crustside down on the foil covered sheet, and put
a sheet of foil over the top (it just has to be over the top...doesn't need to be
wrapped), then bake at 350 for 20 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an
additional 10 minutes uncovered. Let rest 5-8 minutes before cutting.

You tossing words like "chiffonade" out there gives me serious wood.

i need chicken soup.

Alas, that would not keep in a care package. So I'll just have to whip up a batch for you in person.

Feel better, A.
