apparently its wrong to disagree w/ others

my point is there is usually an intention behind collecting war related items.

My Uncle collects knives. He has a case full of them, from all points in history. A few are from the Nazi's. He collects them, because he admires the craftmanship, and the effort it takes to turn out a superior blade, not because he's enthalled with violence.

And yes, I consider knives "war-related items".

Hey, since when is Lit not ripe for a good Christian-burning?

It's true that Christians get a rough ride here. That's mostly due to the fact that a select few of them are really ignorant assholes.

Too bad they're the ones who are so vocal on the board but, then again, that's usually the case.

no, they are collected to make a point- the persons alliance with a certain ideology.

Rory, why exactly are you breathing and polluting the world?

So a person collects arrowheads and bullets from Little Big Horn. What ideology are they in alliance with?
Someone collects US Civil War memorabilia. What are they trying to say?

he should get them appraised. I stand by my perspective because I have seen many examples. No, not everyone is like that but most collectors are.

no, but since when did I ever mention my background? Go to bed, you have that report on Oedipus due.

Oh nonsense. Collectors collect things for all sorts of reasons.

I have a whole lot of Elvis Presley CDs. I collect his music. Does that mean that I automatically endorse his lifestyle? Does my collection of Jerry Lee Lewis tunes mean that I believe that marrying your 14 year-old cousin is AOK?

Of course not. You're making some really silly and undefensible statements here.

There are quite a few posters on here who wouldn't get flack for such comments. You always will, though, `cause you've sealed your poor reputation here.

Lie in the bed you've made like a man. ;)
oh yeah.. reputations are so important in here...

I laugh at people who really give a shit about what their "reputation" is on this erotic website

Judge the rule because of the exceptions?

No. But, unfortunately, to do so seems to be...the rule.

music is quite different from war or do you not recognize that?
You are not seeing things from my perspective but that's ok.

President Bush keeps Saddam Hussein's handgun in a closet near the Oval Office.

I don't know that it's possible to see this from your perspective because there's a huge hole in it.

Here it is, veyr simply. A decision to collect something can be made for many reasons, only one of which would be nostalgia for the era from which it came. But that is only one reason and not necessarily the most prevalent one.

right, ok. We disagree. You stand by your beliefs, I'll stand by mine.
I realize people are curious about things but there is usually a reason why. Haven't any of you taken psychology?

The problem here is that your belief isn't supported by reality. You seem to believe that sympathy with an ideology is the prime and majority reason people collect certain memorabilia. It's not, not by any stretch of the imagination. People collect things, as I said, for any number of reasons and until they tell you what that reason is, it's unfair and foolish to assume you know.

You're like Matthew Craig in some ways: a wannabe iconoclast who's actually desperate for acceptance - in this case, acceptance by what you perceive to be the intellectual fold.

It's tough to be a dork/social reject and not have a real brain to blame it on. Age old story.

no, I am speaking from observing others over the years. I have asked people why they have their collection and the main reason is a connection with the particular era. It is not foolish, it is reality.

you're an ignorant shit to assume I want to be accepted, especially among the likes of you. I dont consider you to be in any "intellectual fold". Those who claim to be smart usually are the opposite.
