Guinness, the therapy dog
The sweetest dog on the face of the planet. Passed his therapy test the first time out (mine too), with a perfect score and received the ability to go into the most complex environments to work with people.
Wed we went and did our orientation with Gabriel' Angels and we have our first assignment. I love this dog.

You might think you and he are there to help the people you meet, but you will find that they give as much to you as you give to them. I've found that this is definitely a two way street. It's almost impossible to touch someone else's life without them also touching yours. I hate the religious connotation of the word, but it's the best word for the situation. I've never lost a spouse or SO to death, so I don't truly know how you feel. I *do* know that you can't allow society to tell you how long *you* need to grieve. Some people think a year is plenty. I don't happen to agree. When my parents died, it took me a full year just to begin to be able to feel again. It was at least 4-5 years before I could make myself go through their belongings, and I still struggle with their memories sometimes.

It'll happen when you're ready. *hugs*

Starbucks has a pay it forward campaign going today through Friday. Anybody who buys another customer a drink will get a free coffee. I'm assuming you probably have to either have or get a loyalty card to take part.

I love this. Pay it forward is such an easy way to make a difference. Ya never know what struggles another person is going through, and a simple gesture like buying a coffee for a stranger can make such an impact. It's an easy way to brighten someone's day. It feels pretty damn good for the giver too.

Kudos Starbucks for encouraging us to give to one another.

I love this. Pay it forward is such an easy way to make a difference. Ya never know what struggles another person is going through, and a simple gesture like buying a coffee for a stranger can make such an impact. It's an easy way to brighten someone's day. It feels pretty damn good for the giver too.

I consider myself very privileged to have been part of a "Pay it Forward" moment a few months ago at work. I work in retail and was in the middle of yet another endless stream of at best, indifferent people who pass through our registers when a lady after having paid for her purchase of around $60 stopped me from handing her the $40 change and told me that she wanted to pay for whatever the young girl who was 2 behind her in line was purchasing.

At first I thought they must have been friends but then I realised that they weren't. I must have look confused I was some dumfounded, so she went on to explain to me that she had had a lovely day and felt the need to "pay it forward" and the young girl 2 behind her had a young baby and would probably benefit from the little extra cash in her purse.

I finally caught on to what she wanted and saw that the girl had no where near $40 worth and told the lady so to which she responded "give her the change!". As she left my counter, she told me not to tell the young girl who had paid for her. "I want nothing in return...." she said as she walked away, smiling.

When it came time to serve the young girl, I told her her purchase had already been paid for and handed her the change and she just looked at me like I had grown a second and third head! After I explained what had happened to her, she burst into tears. A friend that was with her did also, but was able to explain to me why.

The baby was born with a genetic disorder that would mean that she needed round-the-clock care until she was old enough to have surgery to correct the problem so the young girl had had to quit her job and had no income what-so-ever and, until she was approved for assistance, did not have enough money to pay for rent and all the medications she needed. While the $40 would not pay for everything else, it would get her the medication her baby needed this week.

Needless to say, by the time she was finished telling me this, I was crying too. Renewed a little of my faith in humanity....

Not to downplay Starbucks, but the patrons at Tim Horton's in Canada started doing this months ago with no input from the chain. People just started pulling up and paying hundreds of dollars for the next few hundred people to have free coffees. Starbucks is jumping on the bandwagon, because it showed them a way to increase sales.
