This is a straight up, no shit, be real thread.

You call a company and you get one of those systems with a simulated voice asking you to 'speak' your choices.

'In just a few words, tell me how we can help ...'

"OK, let's try something else ...'

How do you react?

If you work for a company that uses one, how do customers react when you get on the phone?

If you work for a company that installs or manages them tell us that side.

Me? I absolutely despise the damned things and wish they were outlawed. Few things make me angier than playing with the crap trying to get someone on the phone. And when I finally do, I let the Rep have it both barrels.

I feel a mixture of strong disdain and loathing for them.

At this point in my life, I don't unload on phone reps. I was on the phones for years and I realize company policies and technology are neither their decision nor fault. Most times they are doing the best they can with what they are given.

Me: Representative…..noooo, rep-ree-zen-TUH-tive…….OH MY FUCKING GAWD, REPRESENTATIVE

Sometimes it works too.

Usually 0 or # takes you to a human by default. I haven’t yet found a machine that doesnt!

Others double down on pissing you the fuck off ......

'I still didn't get that, just tell me in a few words what you'd like to speak to an agent about'.

Me .... pounding 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0

'I'm sorry, that is not a valid extension. Goodbye.'

Hello Al Bundy.

It sucks a big wet one dude, was 40+ yrs in IT, always hated customers that had these impersonal systems.

What makes it worse is that, after you "talk" to these machines and give them information and you finally get to a human being, he or she does not have the information that you left with the machine.

Mike and they don’t have a clue to what’s going on ….duh

The worst thing that happened was a certain President outsourcing. I don’t have anything against anyone but if you have problems speaking English and your customers are English speaking your in deep dodo. I lived in Europe for 5 yrs and interfaced with a lot of different countries and of course languages. It’s not simple.

I don't know how to explain it and most people would just blow my opinions off, but this is not a matter of disliking this things. Dealing wiith them does something to me .... almost making me physically ill.

Very much dislike them. They cost people money. Wasted time and incomplete services.

Me too. I am not anti outsourcing, I’m not anti technology but something about an IVR system instantly spikes my blood pressure, gives me a headache and makes me want to punch someone in the face with my car
I always find myself screaming into my phone, to a computer ā€œagent, REPRESENTATIVE, customer service, a gd human being you piece of crap!ā€or something similar

Hello Al Bundy.
I literally hear Pegs reply everytime I see a Al Bundy plug. The one before she birthed Jax’s .

On topic , I’ve found corporate America šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø has improved their apps to the point that I don’t need to talk to a human anymore. They are designed well enough that the dot com version of there platforms are almost worthless , other then to get the phone number to call them .

I would equate calling customer service anymore to writing a check in the grocery store for payment.
