Your Motto

But what exactly does that mean. I get the gist of it, but most people don't go around killing others anyway. ;)

Serious question, btw: what does that motto mean to you?

Lou

P.S. Joe, is that because they fit inside your ears?

Live your life, and let me live mine.

Ah! I always thought of it as the other way around...

I'll live my life, and let you live yours. Is there a difference in the syntax? ;)

I think it doesn't matter. (that's my other motto) :D

"To live content with small means; to seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion; to be worthy, not respectable, and wealthy, not, rich; to listen to stars and birds, babes and sages, with open heart; to study hard; to think quietly, act frankly, talk gently, await occasions, hurry never; in a word, to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious, grow up through the common--this is my symphony."

--WILLIAM HENRY CHANNING (1810 - 1884)

Edited to add: This might be too long to be a motto...is there a motto length limit?

I understand completely. This is very similar to my work ethic: "Give me my check and leave me alone."

For a more emphatic way to express the "Live and let live" philosophy, consider one of these:

"Leave me alone."

"Leave me the f**k alone."

"Do I complain when you do something impulsive? I did? When?...That was different, you ingrate. That was constructive criticism. I'm talking about the kind of pointless nagging and interference that inspired Websters' to put your picture next to the definition of 'a**hole.' Hell, I don't know why I tell you anything. Just leave me the f**k alone...By the way, I loathe 'Doctor Who.' So does anyone with a mental age above thirteen. You're such a loser."

As one gets older, one's ideals tend to firm-up, like cafeteria Jello. Mottos may grow shorter or longer, depending on the time of the month.

I only wish I had said it.

No, I wish I could live it, eh? ;)

Luck,

This isn't a motto, but it is something I said earlier, also not completely sure it is original to me:

"Love is a great and powerful force.. It has started wars, crumbled nations, and made men do a lot of really silly things."

As for my motto I've always been rather partial to "You reap what you sow", and "An eye for an eye"

"Ashes to ashes, dust to dust." *grin*

This was email forwarded to me about a year ago. I don't know who wrote it originally, but it's been my motto ever since.

The road to wisdom? - Well, it's plain
and simple to express:
Err
and err
and err again
but less
and less
and less.

"That which doesn't kill us, makes us stronger."

dunno who penned it. i ve just used it forever.

There is an island of opportunity in the middle of every difficulty.
Miss that, though, and you're pretty much doomed.

It's all bollocks

or It dun't really matter.

Which mostly stems from "Desiderata"

You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars, you have a right to be here and whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding, as it should.

Although I know very few people who take my meaning from that verse.

My very favourite is in my sig. Bless TP

Bill Murray expressed this beautifully in the landmark motion picture, "Summer Camp" or "Camp Something or Other," it might have been "Camp Woodchuck."

"Repeat after me: It just doesn't matter."

Joe is leaving for a few days. Are you really new to stalking? It can take a seasoned professional months to chase someone away.
