Do you feel that you have an obligation as a citizen, human, whatever to provide financial assistance to those less fortunate than yourself? This either by charity, taxation or both.

I am going to be direct.

I don't have any moral sense of obligation to do so.

I prefer to give money to the SPCA. I pay tax because it is the law.

Of course, I can rationalize the benefit of tax dollars working placebo like magic on the masses to prevent riots and utter anarchy. But, I don't have that moral compass for the helping the poor or disadvantaged in the least... Sorry.

Gary Johnson's 43% Federal budget cut proposal in year one is to me like Mozart is to the classical music enthusiast.

I'd pay money to ship you to an alternative universe where Gary Johnson is President and his ideas are law.

You'll be the first one shot, marinated in five spices, cooked and eaten by the cannibals.

You " prefer"?

Nope, you don't prefer, you think its morally right...hence you donate

if you didnt, you'd find some tax shleter to avoid paying taxes and not have to worry about making a deduction

so yeah... you do have a moral compass for helping those who can't help themselves.. you just changed a word in some vain attempt to not make yourself like every other human being

I donate to the SPCA because I really like dogs and cats.

Fuck people.

The problem is you don't have any money.

If you did, you would not be such a left wing asshole.

I like people... doesnt mean i donate to the KKK...they're people

you feel morally obligated to donate to the SPCA no matter how you slice it

I feel bad for homeless animals.

Feeling bad about their condition doesn't infer any morality. Does it?

you'd think " poor animals, oh well, gotta buy me a new jetski"

So I'm not a sociopath then. Good...

there is a difference between morality and ethics

morality i intrinsically your feelings and your upbringing brought into play

ethics is more of a stance about what is just when excised from feelings

lets look at PETA... on the moral level they are doing right, on an ethical level they deserve to be run over by bulldozers every last one of them

No. No gold star for you.

To me it's not a question of morals.

It all comes down to your view of what welfare is to a society.

Is it ballast, a finite fuel, or a catalyst?

Lets be clear about what morals are and what ethics are.

Morals are prescribed acts that are embraced by most human societies regardless of religious beliefs and political creeds. Murder is illegal everywhere, as is theft, and perjury.

Ethics are a code of conduct generally separate and apart from the criminal laws and civil ordinances. I usta argue that submitting a time sheet for payment prior to a holiday was unethical but later learned that you can do pretty much as you please if the rule fails to cover the circumstances at issue. Loopholes. Another ethics rule I collided with was a rule prohibiting social contact with patients, its not illegal or immoral, and in my case the patient was a relative who came in for a stop smoking clinic.

My sense is, we as free people are under no obligation to accept the imposition of tyranny in order to secure those benefits for others.

We are not a free people, we are a happy Democracy and what is necessary to keep it happy will be taken at all costs...

Thieves celebrate together before they turn upon each other.

You cannot trust thieves you see.

Only if we choose to lay down and knuckle under to tyranny. Some will others won't.

Those who refuse will be hunted and persecuted.

I choose to roll with the tide and try to be in the last looted coalition.

You cannot fight the course of history; it always bears repeating, the lesson must be relearned...

One small step for a President, one great leap back for man.

We will preserve for our children this, the last best hope of man on Earth, or we will sentence them to take the last step into a thousand years of darkness.
Ronald Reagan

Leviathan was all about securing economic and social equality for everyone. It doesn't surprise me that you'd promote it here in America, Mr. Hobbs.

The free market doesn't provide access health care adequately and that reduces freedom. Universal healthcare therefore increases freedom dramatically. If you wish to look at it from an equality perspective, fine: everyone has access to health care now.
