I am in envy.

Now, am having nostalgia for chestnuts from the hot cart, and venison.

*eats my oven baked chestnuts and dreams of Denmark rye.*

Must find sourdough starter.

Come over for dinner. It'll be just a few more hours.

Ah

Alas, I have been a vegetarian for too long.

The snow and cold are here and I am feeling nolstagia for my childhood winters.

Venison was a big part of it.
Hunting was possible.
Long time, ago.

Now, the does park their fawns in my ferns.
The stags hide out from the hunters across the street from my house.
They move on when the coyotes and coywolves catch up to them.

Venison stew is a success! Made with parsnip, rutabaga, carrot, onion, and baby Bellas. Served over mashed russets.

And currently, I'm enjoying a nice California Cab as an appetizer before dinner.

Made rice pudding with dried cranberries and toasted whole almonds.

It would look more festive with fresh mint.

Earlier today we went down to the pier and picked up some awesome fresh prawns.

After peeling and deveining the wee buggers, I made a delicious stock using the heads, shells, and some onion, carrot, celery, and fresh herbs.

This stock, along with the prawns, some crabmeat, and halibut chunks were used in the making of a creamy seafood risotto, which was devoured by the whole family, along with some steamed broccoli, and some garlicky, sautéed bok choy.

A lovely Pinot Grigio, a gift from a neighbour, accompanied the meal.
