I mentioned, in some thread somewhere, a stew I like made with quinoa, chicken, and red lentils. If you're not familiar with red lentils, they get mushy when cooked, so they natural thicken soups and stews. I love them. This is a very simple recipe, so it can be fun to play with when it comes to spices. It's a favorite here in cold weather. The recipe calls for bell pepper, and I usually use a color other than green.

Quinoa, Chicken, and Red Lentil Stew

I usually toast quinoa before adding it to a recipe or adding the liquid to cook it on its own. I rinse the quinoa, then I put it in a dry skillet on med to med-high heat. The water from rinsing cooks away fairly quickly, then I dry toast the quinoa until it's golden brown (for the white quinoa) and there's some popping going on.

If I think to take pictures when I make it next time, I'll share, though this isn't a particularly pretty dish.

I think this might be really useful for me. Its not something look up or arrive at my myself but I think would go down well here, thank you, I will try it next time my sometime house guest and Gianbattista are both home.

I'm glad you think you can use it. It's a very comforting, homey kind of meal.

I had the easiest dessert I ever made aside from squirting whipped cream in my mouth from the can.

This is a campers recipe and it's done by a fire but you can do it in a oven, microwave, BBQ grill or convection oven. Cook times vary accordingly. I omitted the foil because I did mine in a microwave. Credit to Ray Mears for bringing it to my attention.

http://www.food.com/recipe/chocolate-rum-bananas-273148

Split open a banana down the middle with a knife just deep enough to hold pieces of chocolate, leaving it in the peel which serves as the container.
Break off pieces of chocolate and shove them into the bananas crack. lol
Pour 1 shot of Rum over the chocolate .
Heat until chocolate melts.
Eat it out of the peel, ice cream just makes it better, omit alcohol for kids.

Damnit! I just ate my last banana.
Worst thing about that is... I have rum and chocolate and ice cream on hand! Aaarrrgghh!

And some genius ;) just suggested I add pecans on top, which I also have! Mine just may turn out even better than the original :p

My genius rarely comes, but when it does, food seems to be involved! But with that said the carmelized idea was off the charts!

I called my butcher and they said they had pork side. Which he describe as a thick hunk of bacon. He neglected to tell me it was sliced. I just grabbed it and ran. Never saw it it was wrapped in brown paper.

These cats are famous for their bacon. I'm sure he'd cut me some actual pork belly upon request. That won't help me tonight.

New Sagaya Market and Costco are the places in my town to get pork belly.

I may have to think about cooking one this weekend in my egg.

I've done that in my BGE - but I cured the pork belly in brine for a week first. It was so good.
