I have always hesitated to add bacon in with the ground meat because I don't like limp bacon :( I only like it crispy. Did you notice bits of (what I would call undercooked) bacon in the patty's texture? Or did it blend pretty well? I would love to try this, but a but worried about the result. And yours looks BEAUTIFULLY cooked, by the way. I like my patties well done!! Apologies to the rare burger folks :D

Irezumi - those look yum!

Try adding some mint ( I keep dried mint on hand and I grind it in a mortar and pestle) to the burger patties. Oh and no bacon bits; I prefer a well cooked rasher.

I almost always shred fresh lettuce and put it in the bottom of my bowl, ladling hot, brothy soup over it. So good!

Question: I was given some really lovely vanilla extract. Does anyone have any good recipes to showcase it?

a few drops into pancake batter or the beaten eggs before dunking the bread for making French toast.

I like to add oregano on everything I cook. which are fried rice, omelet and spaghetti. thats all I can cook *cries in Spanish*

Try basil in your spaghetti. It has a sweeter note and pairs well with oregano. Fried rice I add a dash of soy sauce, maybe I should try oregano. Its the only herb that I don't seem to kill.

I love cooked lettuce. I had not thought to replace bok choi ( this sort of cooking is one of my weaker areas I think ) , but its delicious as a cooked vegetable with white wine ( do not read next bit collar) petis pois, and onions. Maybe on decadent day a little light cream. Or lettuce soup.

Hmmmm... your post seems to have stopped mid sentence
:p

In a warmed pan, put some extra virgin olive oil, add diced garlic, oregano and parsley, wait till garlic is slightly brown, than add about a half a cup of tomato sauce, cook a few minutes, than some diced up eggplant, mix, cook a bit and than add the rest of the sauce, cover and cook about a half an hour, medium heat.
In the big pot of water next to it, add a little sea salt, and when it boils throw in some small shells, wait till they're ready, get rid of the water than pour in the eggplant mixture, cover and cook about another half hour or so, goes great with garlic bread, enjoy.

Just a few tips:
If your tomato sauce is getting too spicy for your taste, drop in a carrot next time.
Cooking shrimp, add a little celery salt to the water, works with crab as well.
Vanilla extract (the good stuff, not the fake crap) goes great in pancake and waffle mix.

Not so long a wait for that ;) thanks!! :)

Your welcome, how did it come out?

Tomorrow morning there will be a chocolate cake in the oven for a birthday. Also a Spinach & Ricotta strudel for lunch and a cornbread with bacon grease just because. If I'm going to turn on the oven in this heat, I'm going to work it.

Is your cornbread sweet or savory? (Is savory even the right word?)

I don't add sugar to my cornbread. Though, if I have a hankering I'll whip up some honey butter to spread on slices after. Mmmm, cornbread.

I will be thinking of your honey butter while I'm eating warm, greasy, bacon flavored cornbread for breakfast . I might even schmear some on it.

I'm going to have a sugar hangover. Dang irresistible limoncello mascarpone goodness.
