My kids thought it was spicy, me?...not even a sniffle, but good flavors.

This would probably make it less "Italian" to use on that pasta but...if you're not feeling challenged by these so-called hot dishes and wanna really put a kick into things...

...be liberally generous with this on anything you eat and it will keep the insides of your mouth firmly in the equatorial zone! :D

I have a jar of chilli and garlic that also 'works' in spaghetti bolognaise.
I also add it to fried rice to spice it up.

Hey, it's National Pierogi Day

In observance of National Pierogi Day today, Veselka is serving an order (any variety) for $5 all day long.

The restaurant on Second Avenue and East Ninth Street makes 3,000 pierogis by hand every day (according to Veselka).

Or maybe you could pick some up to take home from East Village Meat Market on Second Avenue... and Polish G. I. Delicatessen on First Avenue.

Can you tell me what this is? Looks like fish on a string :p but why so long and skinny? Smoked or dried or something? I'm just not sure what I am looking at. Looks like beautiful salmon, though!

Traditional squaw candy. (Smoked and dried salmon)

To eat?

That's a bunch of fish.

But it takes a couple weeks to make decent smoked fish in a real smokehouse.

Today, people all want instant results.

Instant smoked meats have a metal taste to them LOL

We has a smokehouse where I grew up, I can relate.
And yes, to eat. I would eat that in two days if you didn't catch me. At least, I would try :D

BBQ season is coming to a close, and they choose now, to tell us that pumice is a good choice for cleaning the grill. (Powdered pumice is not as big of a problem as metal bristles piercing human intestines.)

Day dreaming about vegetarian ( or vegan) Swedish meatballs.

Seitan can be custom made, for the purpose.
Yummy fresh herbs and dried herbs for seasonal flavor.

The fond from sauteing the veggies could flavor the sauce.
Butter, cream, tamari, Worcestershire, wine...

Ahhhhhh! Mushrooms! Magical umami.
But, which kind ?

I miss porcini powder.

The multinational conglomerates are being stingy, and the choices are narrow.

Even the shelves at Whole Paycheck are a bit bare.

Before this latest round of punishing the 99%
Trader Joes was swimming in luxury goods.

Anything you could get at Whole Paycheck, could be found at a better price.
Maybe, Mr. Texan Whole Paycheck intimidated the suppliers.
No dirty trick is beneath him.
(I watched him voice his contempt for the customers of Whole Paycheck.)
Whole Paycheck killed off the competition by using dirty tricks.
(He was caught at it, and suffered no loss for doing so.)
Wild Harvest was popular with New England.
Now, WH is being edged out from supplying packaged goods for mainstream supermarkets.

Wild Harvest was a fun store, run by good people.
It was a store that had room for everyone.
They stocked grocery store goods, for people who were making the transition to healthy.

Oh hell no, I BBQ all year long. I've even down to -20, it's better when your grill has a cover though.

I live in the land of wet.
And we like it, like that.

But, it does not make for good BBQ weather.
This summer was an exception.
My lawn died.

We would pull BBQ up to backdoor and do pork chops in the winter. Pork chops always seem to set off smoke detector when baked in oven. Yes you need a cover at -20. Also watch out for almost empty tanks. Last bit doesn't last long in cold weather and sucks replacing it in -20 too.

Indeed. My natural gas grill works all year long. And, the new AKORN is fitted with a cap to handle rain or snow. It will be fine at any outdoor temperature. Wind is the only issue. I've grilled in 50 mph gusts before.
