Maybe you are famous? Google yourself. I know it's vain, but you can figure out if people say much about you. I have a pile of citations there, but it's all for work and only a couple for finishing ski tours.

I do okay making things out of wood. My kids teethed on a crib made of Alaskan birch, not because I was cheap, but that I didn't like what was available on the market in town. One year, all the women in the family got exotic hardwood framed mirrors for Christmas that I made. I got my mom's back after she passed an it's our mirror at the cabin. Speaking of, at the cabin I blended all the T&G cottonwood to bend around the corners so that the cuts were virtually invisible. Wood is just an easy material to deal with.

I just finished restoring this and gave it away this morning.

It's a 3/0 sized Hampden Diadem made in approx 1911. It has 15 jewels inside and runs really sweet now. For those who don't know, the "size" is of the movement, not the case. A 3/0 size is 3 sizes smaller than a 0 (zero) size which is approx 25mm in diameter. The CASE on this Hampden is only 28mm in diameter. It's really tiny in there.

Watches and clocks take some patience and attention to detail that I just don't have. I fixed a school clock that was my moms and restored a grandfather clock that I had found for a good price but the work wasn't nearly as intricate as you get with pocket watches and some clocks and I was only doing for my own benefit, not as a hobby or anything.
I am impressed with folks who do this.

Like anything mechanical, you start out by learning and trying a few things, breaking stuff, repairing it and breaking other stuff until you can finally get something rebuilt and running again.

That learning curve is unavoidable. Once you get through that, time and tools become your next level obstacle. I didn't start to really be able to do quality work until I had a good stereo microscope and better small handtools along with a timing machine. Then it was time for the next level and a lathe and collets and so on.

My very first pocket watch is a cheapest of the cheap 7 jewel Elgin that keeps better time than the standards for railroad approved high jewel count watches - it will run with less than 30 seconds deviation over 7 days. Of course it took me months to get it there, but it eventually came to time and holds it nearly perfectly.

I restored this watch about a month ago. It's a "6 size" Elgin from the late 1800's. It has 11 jewels inside and the case is gold filled. For those who don't know, "6 size" is about 40mm diameter so it fits perfectly in that little pocket in your jeans you never use.

I also gave it away to someone who wears and enjoys it daily.

So, I am thinking I am creative with my singing. I used to be in choirs but now I hum all the time and sing in the shower. Just a footnote, I can sing the 50 United States in Alphabetical order. It was what I was known for on the family party scene.

This is a zero size 15 Jewel Elgin that needs a LOT of attention. Eventually it'll run again and I'll probably give it away too.

Not as weird as it sounds. I can write, arrange and produce a decent tune, but the only thing I can perform with semi competently is my voice. And maaybe shake a tambourine about.

So I make songs for me on and off band, but leave most of the performing to those who do it better. I "play" the sequencers and share vocals duty.
